At night, a wolf howl shattered the evening's tranquility, startling Sett awake from his rest.
"What the hell is with the howling in the middle of the night? Can't a guy get some sleep?" Sett muttered as he looked at the wolf on the street.
He casually picked up the binoculars nearby and took a look. "Hmm?"
Through the high-magnification night-vision binoculars, he could see it clearly. A massive wolf, as tall as a building and six meters in length, was prowling down the street.
"What a huge wolf." Sett exclaimed, knowing that wolf-type monsters of this size usually possessed strength at the mid-level Warlord stage or higher.
Sett looked closer and saw that the giant wolf was covered in gray fur, but had a patch of white on its head.
As the giant wolf walked down the street, the surrounding monsters trembled in fear, as if they had encountered their ultimate nightmare.
"Captain, look, what is that wolf?" Sett had an inkling of what monster it was, but he still called out to Chen Fan; after all, it was hard to sleep soundly with such a ferocious beast nearby.
"Let me see." Chen Fan didn't waste any time after being woken up and quickly looked at the giant wolf outside the window.
"Damn, that's a Hunter!" Chen Fan exclaimed.
"A Hunter?" Luo Feng had also been woken up and asked, confused.
Seeing the captain's expression, Luo Feng figured it must be a very formidable monster.
"A Hunter, the wolf down there is a Hunter—a Silver Moon Fierce Wolf! See the white fur on its head? It's crescent-shaped, hence the name Silver Moon Fierce Wolf." Chen Fan swallowed hard and continued, "This Silver Moon Fierce Wolf is the king among wolf-type monsters. Even the weakest adult is at least a mid-level Warlord."
"And it's not comparable to ordinary mid-level Warlord monsters. This wolf is fierce, brutal, and highly intelligent."
"Don't let its gray fur fool you; once it enters combat mode, the gray fur turns completely silver-white, and the crescent-shaped white patch on its head turns blood-red."
"The one down there is likely at least a high-level Warlord. To it, we're nothing more than a snack. Let's wait for it to leave before we try to rest again."
Chen Fan had hunted monsters in the wilderness for a long time and had only seen a Silver Moon Fierce Wolf a few times. He couldn't help but take a few more looks; the materials on this wolf were worth ten times that of the Three-Tailed Tiger Cat they had hunted during the day, especially that fur, which would drive the wealthy elite into a frenzy.
Having a Silver Moon Fierce Wolf pelt as a rug at home was the ultimate status symbol.
"I wonder how a monster like this ended up in a place like this," Zhao Yong added.
After all, such high-level Warlord monsters usually haunted city centers and the like. This was the suburbs, where it was rare to see monsters of this caliber. Zhao Yong was a bit puzzled, but he decided to go back to sleep once the Silver Moon Fierce Wolf left.
Rest well so we have the energy to kill monsters tomorrow, Zhao Yong thought, not caring about what kind of fierce wolf it was.
The next day, the group returned to the rooftop. The four of them continued to search for targets on the street, waiting for a suitable one before letting Yang Hui take the shot.
"Captain, I've spotted a Blue-Blooded Deer!" Sett saw a Blue-Blooded Deer leading dozens of monsters down the street and quickly called out.
The Blue-Blooded Deer before them was even larger than the one they had encountered at the start.
"This Blue-Blooded Deer must have mid-level Warlord strength, but it has too many lackeys with it," Chen Fan said, frowning as he observed.
The materials from a mid-level Warlord monster were tempting, but dozens of monsters were extremely dangerous.
"Let's gamble on it!" Chen Fan gritted his teeth.
"Yang Hui, you snipe the Blue-Blooded Deer in a moment. If you're lucky and wound it heavily or kill it outright, grab the machine gun and charge down with us to snatch the carcass!" Chen Fan laid out his plan.
It was very dangerous to be without a sniper observing the situation from above, as no one knew when the next wave of monsters might appear.
"No problem, I'm with you, Brother Chen." Yang Hui agreed, then set down his sniper rifle. He picked up the six-barreled machine gun, draped the ammunition belts over his body, checked the weapon, and then picked up the sniper rifle again to aim at the Blue-Blooded Deer below.
Seconds ticked by, and Yang Hui continued to search for the perfect opportunity to land a lethal blow.
The others didn't make a sound, their breathing shallow to avoid disturbing Yang Hui.
Yang Hui finally pulled the trigger, and the bullet instantly left the chamber, streaking toward the Blue-Blooded Deer.
The Blue-Blooded Deer, wandering the street, was caught completely off guard. A hole was punched into its head, and one of its antlers was even snapped off.
However, the Blue-Blooded Deer's skull was too hard, deflecting the incoming bullet.
The Blue-Blooded Deer let out a loud cry, and the surrounding monster lackeys swarmed over. Although the deer had lost an antler, it was still filled with a murderous aura that intimidated the soldier-level monsters.
Seeing that the first shot hadn't hit the mark, Yang Hui quickly fired a follow-up!
The second shot struck one of the Blue-Blooded Deer's knees, shattering the lower leg directly.
Suffering a second injury, the Blue-Blooded Deer howled and scrambled to escape.
The three-legged Blue-Blooded Deer still ran with incredible speed, so fast that the soldier-level monsters behind it couldn't keep up.
"Chase it!" Chen Fan shouted the order as soon as he saw it.
The group grabbed their gear and dashed down the stairs, tracking the blue bloodstains on the road.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
The group pursued rapidly along the street corner and soon spotted the three-legged Blue-Blooded Deer ahead.
Realizing it couldn't escape, the Blue-Blooded Deer let out a howl. The soldier-level monsters that had been following it regrouped, surrounding it tightly to provide protection.
"Yang Hui, fire!" Seeing the monsters bunched together, Chen Fan urged Yang Hui to shoot.
"Got it!" Yang Hui unslung the machine gun from his back, and the others beside him pushed back.
Suddenly, the sound of "rat-tat-tat-tat-tat..." erupted. Tongues of fire spewed from the barrel, unleashing a hail of armor-piercing rounds.
These armor-piercing rounds could cause significant damage even to Warlord-level monsters, let alone the soldier-level monsters before them.
"Die!" Yang Hui held the trigger of the machine gun firmly, the Kro Alloy barrel pouring out a relentless stream of bullets, sweeping across the monster horde.
The monsters ahead were struck by the bullets, letting out pained howls. These armor-piercing rounds embedded themselves into the monsters' bodies, but because of their massive size, they wouldn't die instantly unless the damage was fatal.
However, as time passed, by the time Yang Hui had exhausted all the bullets on his person, only two or three monsters remained standing, one of which was the Blue-Blooded Deer.
"Zhao Yong, protect Yang Hui. Sett, Luo Feng, we're going in!" Chen Fan finished speaking and was the first to charge forward.
Once Yang Hui's machine gun was empty, he had little combat capability left. Naturally, he needed someone to protect his safety on the street, and Zhao Yong was the perfect candidate.
Sett and Luo Feng followed Chen Fan as he charged toward the Blue-Blooded Deer.
Chen Fan pierced a wild boar that hadn't been killed by the machine gun with a single strike; as it was only at the beast soldier level, it was no match for him at all.
In two or three strikes, Chen Fan ended its life.
Sett clenched his fists, Pummel! He struck the leg of the Blue-Blooded Deer with one punch, and Luo Feng followed up by slamming into it with his shield held in both hands.
With both of them exerting force in the same direction, the massive Blue-Blooded Deer was forced to stagger back two steps to dissipate the impact.
The Blue-Blooded Deer let out a howl and thrust its remaining horn toward Sett.
The massive antler swung with the deer's head, whistling through the air as it headed straight for Sett.
But Sett was prepared and dodged a step earlier than the Blue-Blooded Deer, the antler grazing past him just inches away.
"Good chance!" After finishing off the two remaining beast soldier monsters, Chen Fan thrust his spear into the neck of the Blue-Blooded Deer.
A large hole was opened in the Blue-Blooded Deer's neck, and blue blood flowed out incessantly.
It let out a howl and turned its head to ram Sett once more.
"Damn! Why are you only targeting me!" Sett saw the massive antler and realized he couldn't dodge in time.
He grabbed the incoming antler with one hand, only to be sent flying away.
"Sett! Die, you beast!" Chen Fan thrust at the Blue-Blooded Deer again. Already severely wounded, the Blue-Blooded Deer couldn't dodge this strike, and another hole was opened in its neck.
Puchi!
Chen Fan followed up with several more strikes, ending the life of the Blue-Blooded Deer.
"Hiss, that hurts!" At the last moment, Sett had grabbed the antler with one hand, and as the antler swung, he was flung a great distance.
Fortunately, he hadn't been struck directly by the antler; otherwise, given the Blue-Blooded Deer's immense strength, Sett would have been dead or at least severely injured.
"My arm feels dislocated." Waves of pain radiated from the hand that had grabbed the antler.
"Sett, are you alright?" Luo Feng found Sett lying on the ground and asked.
"I'm fine, I won't die." Sett grabbed the hand Luo Feng extended and stood up from the ground, leaving a sizable crater behind him.
"Let's find a place to rest first; it's too dangerous for us right now." Chen Fan led the group into a nearby hotel, entering a room on an upper floor to recover.
With a crack, Chen Fan set Sett's dislocated arm back into place.
"Thanks, Brother Chen." Sett flexed his arm and smiled.
