Yun Yun leads the Misty Cloud Sect and is the personal teacher of Nalan Yanran. At the time of Gu He’s expedition to seize a Heavenly Flame from the Snake-People Tribe, she joins his party as its strongest combatant. In the ensuing battle, she holds off five Snake-People Tribe Dou Wangs, but is already depleted when Xiao Ce enters the conflict. After witnessing him rapidly defeat Yan Shi and Feng Li, she attempts to flee; Xiao Ce pursues and defeats her after roughly a minute of sustained combat. 55 57 59 60

While held in the Snake-People Tribe’s Holy City, Yun Yun is deceived into believing that Xiao Ce is the Young Valley Lord of Burning Flame Valley, a powerful Central Plains faction. Fearing that resisting him could endanger the Misty Cloud Sect, she yields to Xiao Ce under pressure from Yue Mei. Over the following days, however, she begins to value Xiao Ce’s sincerity, knowledge, and willingness to listen to her guidance. 66 67 68

After Xiao Ce leaves, Yun Yun remains long enough to negotiate Gu He’s release from the Snake-People Tribe at significant cost to her sect. While returning to the Misty Cloud Sect, she investigates the destruction of the Mo Clan and discovers that the clan had used the sect’s name to commit abuses, worsening her distrust of First Elder Yun Leng. 73 90

When Nalan Yanran asks for help dissolving her engagement to Xiao Yan, Yun Yun initially refuses to use the sect’s power to bully the Xiao Clan. Hearing that Xiao Yan belongs to the Xiao Clan nevertheless stirs memories of Xiao Ce, and she personally accompanies Nalan Yanran to Wutan City.
