Ch. 881The Ending
- The woman regains her reason: After absorbing the second statue, the woman appears lifeless, and the waiter mocks Zhou You for supposedly wasting their chance to kill him. Zhou You stays calm, however. The woman finally speaks, calling the waiter “Shao Chi” and revealing that she has recovered her human consciousness. She explains that she had hidden part of her reason in half a statue, attached it to a monster, and thereby protected herself from being deceived by the three men again.
- The three men are judged: The cook attacks, but the woman effortlessly erases the Bone Cleaver and turns the phantom hound into the beloved dog she once raised. She recalls that the cook poisoned both dogs and later exploited them after death; the surviving dog is released to rest. She confronts the silent innkeeper, Ge Xudong, about his role in deceiving her and their transformation into unnatural beings. He offers no real explanation, saying only that the winner takes all. The waiter begs for mercy, while the cook fights back; the woman destroys both, then erases Ge Xudong as well. The three former rulers of the inn are gone for good.
- Zhou You and the group are rewarded: The woman thanks Zhou You for saving her from madness, while he says he acted partly because it was their only chance of survival. She gives the Desert North Mad Blade a rare Blood Bodhi, the Eight Treasures Arhat a valuable scripture, Shengyuan a private message, Lin Yunshao a crystal flower, and Wang Chongming a pill. Lin Yunshao, still without her memories, receives the flower after the woman recognizes something of herself in her.
- The woman’s future remains bleak: Now in control of the inn’s power, she plans to take it somewhere remote and sleep until time gradually wears her away, fearing she may lose control again. Asked about the two statues, she admits she knows little, but recalls a name from the chaos surrounding their arrival: “God of the Olden Days.”
Character developments and themes: The woman returns to herself but remains a dangerous supernatural being, mixing gratitude and compassion with overwhelming power. Zhou You’s restraint and practical judgment help make her recovery possible. The defeated men’s betrayal contrasts with the woman’s lingering memories of kindness and honest intentions. The chapter explores the lasting cost of corruption, the possibility of redemption, and the tension between power, responsibility, and a fate that may not be escaped.
