The enormous, tumor-like Kinfolk savagely wrenched its last barbed leg from a fissure and drove it deep into the protruding bone beam below. Its swollen, blackened abdomen sagged over the flowing dark-gold channels.

Amid greedy, grating sucking noises, streams of warm, sacred golden radiance were drawn ceaselessly into its mouthparts. Through its thin, translucent belly, the black parasitic vessels writhing wildly inside stood out clearly.
Deep within a recess in the stone wall below, a gigantic gray-white hand glowing faintly gold had just tried to rise. Now it abruptly lost its strength and slid heavily to the ground.
The weathered old membrane its fingertips had just lifted slowly drooped again.
On a stone beam in the cavern's shadows, [Tom Pie]'s face was thunderous.
The treacherous fat insect had evidently taken advantage of the bloody battle outside the valley entrance to slip in through a narrow ventilation fissure in the ceiling and steal their nest.

The two members of The Ancient had yet to fully awaken. The hardened skin around their shoulders, necks, and backs had swollen violently, while the thick old cocoons covering their chests had split in several places with web-like cracks.
