Under the vast, expansive sky, a massive White-headed Golden Eagle spread its wings and soared, looking down at the sprawling land below. Its emerald-green eyes, glinting with sharp light, suddenly shifted. With a long cry, it dove toward the ground like a bomber.
On the wilderness, two small dots rapidly expanded; they were two humans. They seemed to have noticed the giant bird descending from above. The man asked the woman, "You want to take this, or should I?"
"I'll do it," the woman replied. Two gleaming throwing knives flew from her body, instantly vanishing as they transformed into two streaks of lightning, shooting toward the incoming bird. At this moment, the White-headed Golden Eagle was less than fifty meters away, about to extend its talons to strike. Based on its past hunting experience, prey of this size was usually quite weak.
But the White-headed Golden Eagle was wrong. The moment it drew near those two bipedal animals, a sudden, intense sense of crisis surged within it. Its feathers stood on end, and with a shrill cry, it spread its wings, turning to bank away. But it was too late. Two white streaks of light seemed to emerge from the void, their flight speed exceeding the bird's ability to process. Before the White-headed Golden Eagle could even react, the two white lights had pierced through its head in succession. It plummeted to the ground with a loud boom, its massive body and immense momentum carving a trench over ten meters long and two or three meters deep into the earth.
The two Grade 9 throwing knives circled in the air before automatically flying back into the knife pouch on the thighs of the beautiful, black-haired young woman.
Ji Xuan's control over her throwing knives via Spirit Reading Power had a range limit; they were most powerful within fifty meters, consuming very little mental energy. At one hundred meters, she could barely maintain their maximum power, but the distance required significantly more mental energy. Beyond that, the power dropped off rapidly.
As for their destructive force, each throwing knife possessed an attack power equivalent to 400,000 kilograms of force. Ji Xuan could control six simultaneously, and the knives could break the sound barrier by ten times. If all six were launched at once, even a group of high-level God of War fighters would be slaughtered. This was the terrifying aspect of a Spirit Reader.
Furthermore, because Spirit Readers could control their weapons to fly, it was difficult for ordinary God of War fighters to threaten them; they were essentially forced to just take the hits. Unless they encountered a particularly monstrous God of War, Spirit Readers were almost invincible.
Chen Daolin glanced at the corpse of the White-headed Golden Eagle on the ground and smiled. "Food isn't a problem here; we just need to find a water source."
The two stripped the important materials from the White-headed Golden Eagle and left.
A perfectly good high-level Beast General monster had lost its life simply because of bad luck.
Soon, Chen Daolin and Ji Xuan arrived at the massive mountain range that stretched for hundreds of kilometers. With undulating peaks and dense forests, the landscape was desolate and magnificent. Avoiding some monsters, the two carved out a hidden cave halfway up a remote, steep cliff. They dug a tunnel over ten meters long and more than three meters in diameter, then blocked the entrance with rubble. They had little to worry about regarding monster attacks. The cave was even divided into two separate rooms, providing Chen Daolin and Ji Xuan each with a place to rest.
During the day, the two would go out to hunt monsters in the mountains, and at night, they would return to rest.
Six days passed just like that.
In a vast, flat valley, waves of wolf howls rose and fell incessantly. Packs of giant grey, white, and black wolves were gathered below, resting and playing. Wolves were pack animals by nature, and the number of wolf-type monsters gathered here was staggering—at least ten thousand, densely packed. In the center of the valley was an open space where a black giant wolf, five or six meters tall and over ten meters long, lay resting. Its entire body was covered in grim black scales, and it exhaled white mist from its mouth. Its golden pupils were slightly narrowed, occasionally leaking chilling golden glints from the slits.
Chen Daolin and Ji Xuan were hiding in a forest over ten kilometers away, watching the scene through binoculars. This was one of the largest monster groups they had found in the mountains over the past few days. In this nameless mountain range, there were two major monster groups: a wolf pack and a monkey troop. However, there were three high-level Lord Level monsters: besides the solitary Purple Lightning Python and the monkey troop's leader, the Great Strength Demon Ape, there was this wolf pack leader, the Black-scaled Demon Wolf.
Over the past few days, Chen Daolin and Ji Xuan had worked together to kill more than twenty Lord Level monsters, including eighteen low-level Lords, five mid-level Lords, and one high-level Lord—the Purple Lightning Python that had no pack.
Killing over twenty Lord Level monsters in just six days did not mean they were easy to kill. One had to know that even the other high-level God of War Spirit Reader at the Training Camp had only managed to kill one low-level Lord so far; the others had either sensed danger and fled or escaped with the help of their numerous subordinates. Killing even one required luck. Only someone like Chen Daolin, whose strength was absolutely overwhelming, combined with the cooperation of a high-level God of War Spirit Reader, could successfully hunt so many and achieve such an astonishing record.
Chen Daolin smiled. "A-Xuan, let's split up. One person takes one direction, and we'll pinch it from front and back to block it."
Generally speaking, when a monster Lord realized it was no match for Chen Daolin, it would try to run backward, at which point it would be delivered straight to the waiting Ji Xuan and successfully harvested.
Of course, more often than not, they were simply beaten to death under Chen Daolin's erupting spear.
Bang! The wolf monsters resting and playing in the valley suddenly heard a loud explosion. A black shadow crossed the long distance like a hunting falcon, landing on a giant white wolf and crushing it into a bloody mess. The spear transformed into a Phantom, and the surrounding wolf monsters were torn to pieces, blood and gore flying everywhere as he carved a path of carnage.
The one who had suddenly killed his way in was naturally Chen Daolin himself. Holding his spear, his figure moved like the wind, rapidly rushing through the encirclement of wolf monsters to reach the open space in the center, facing the strongest monster Lord of the entire pack: the Black-scaled Demon Wolf.
The Black-scaled Demon Wolf had already stood up when Chen Daolin appeared. It opened its cold, ruthless golden eyes, watching the human slaughter its pack below while exhaling white mist.
Whoosh!
The moment Chen Daolin's feet touched the edge of the clearing where the Black-scaled Demon Wolf stood, the beast moved instantly. Its figure blurred, appearing before Chen Daolin in a flash, and only then did a violent sonic boom echo from its original position. A claw swiped down at Chen Daolin like lightning. Chen Daolin's figure flickered, and a fierce gust of wind whistled from where the claw had struck, leaving a crater four or five meters deep and over twenty meters in diameter in the earth. Ordinary soil was simply too fragile in front of such a monster.
"Come, take my spear!" Chen Daolin laughed loudly. He stomped heavily on the ground, leaped into the air, and thrust his spear forward like lightning toward the Black-scaled Demon Wolf's massive head.
Even without activating the King Kai Fist, using only the force amplification of the second layer of the World Destroyer spear technique, Chen Daolin's attack reached a staggering 500,000 kilograms, comparable to the peak of a high-level God of War.
The Black-scaled Demon Wolf jerked its head to avoid Chen Daolin's attack, a hint of mockery in its eyes. Both claws swiped simultaneously from left and right at Chen Daolin, who had no leverage in mid-air. Even a high-level God of War would be killed or severely injured by such a strike.
Chen Daolin, however, seemed not to care, driving his spear toward the Black-scaled Demon Wolf.
Squelch! Chen Daolin's spear pierced hard into the Black-scaled Demon Wolf's left paw, sinking in halfway and nearly penetrating the entire limb. Meanwhile, the wolf's other claw, carrying a foul wind, slammed into Chen Daolin. It was blocked by the shaft of the spear, so Chen Daolin was unharmed, but the Black-scaled Demon Wolf suffered; it had underestimated the hardness of Chen Daolin's weapon and was now in a difficult position.
Chen Daolin quickly pulled his blood-stained spear from the wolf's paw, kicked at the two claws that were about to close together, and actually managed to kick one aside. Using the claw as a stepping stone, he launched himself into the air, rushing toward the Black-scaled Demon Wolf's head.
The Black-scaled Demon Wolf was shocked, a fierce light flashing in its eyes as it opened its mouth to bite at Chen Daolin.
Chen Daolin swept his spear horizontally, smashing the Black-scaled Demon Wolf's head to the side with a bang. He himself was knocked to the ground by the immense force, but as soon as he landed, he dodged to the side, and a giant claw slammed down, sending gravel flying.
"Awoooo~~" The surrounding wolf monsters roared and charged, but they were either sent flying in a bloody mess by Chen Daolin's sweep or caught in the crossfire of the Black-scaled Demon Wolf's attacks, crushed into meat paste. The howling never ceased, and the center of the valley was littered with corpses, with blood flowing like a river.
The Black-scaled Demon Wolf grew more alarmed the longer they fought, while Chen Daolin grew more courageous. A hint of fear appeared in the Black-scaled Demon Wolf's golden pupils. It let out a howl, and the entire pack scattered in a frantic run. The Black-scaled Demon Wolf itself turned into a streak of black light, fleeing out of the valley, with a sonic boom echoing only after it had already moved.
"Trying to run? In your dreams!" Chen Daolin shouted. He activated the five-fold King Kai Fist, and his aura changed instantly. With a boom, the ground exploded, sending dust flying. A grey streak of light followed closely behind the Black-scaled Demon Wolf. The wolf ran madly without looking back, only to find that the human behind it was getting closer and closer. Just as it felt a mix of shock and rage, several white lights suddenly flew out from a nearby pile of rocks, targeting the Black-scaled Demon Wolf's head. The wolf shook its head violently, but it only dodged two of the throwing knives. Two others pierced directly into its face, getting stuck in the hard skull, while two more went straight through the Black-scaled Demon Wolf's eyes. The beast surged forward for another two hundred meters before collapsing to the ground, rolling over.
Boom! A grey streak of light appeared beside the corpse of the Black-scaled Demon Wolf—it was Chen Daolin. His body was emitting faint white smoke and a burnt smell from the high-speed friction, and his hair was standing on end, making him look rather comical.
Chen Daolin rubbed his face and touched his hair. Although not a single strand was damaged, he still felt that he couldn't look very presentable right now.
In the fierce battle with this high-level Lord Level Black-scaled Demon Wolf, he hadn't even used his Black God Set or the King Kai Fist, yet he had already sent the opponent fleeing in terror.
Chen Daolin's current strength far exceeded that of a high-level God of War; he just didn't know if he could go head-to-head with an existence that had surpassed the God of War level.
