"Doesn't it seem impossible to speak of us being 'of the same kind'?" Baolin asked.
Wang Qi translated for him from the side.
There was no helping it. After all... Understanding Language had been bestowed upon him by the Beauty God. He had no way to duplicate it for others, nor could he transcribe the language he had already deciphered for other cultivators. Thus, he could only take part in this conversation as an interpreter.
Qingchao Zong nodded. There was nothing to deny. In truth, he did not even understand the human language. Even if he wanted to pretend his memories had awakened, Wang Qi only needed to probe him a little for the lie to show.
He had no memories of being "human" at all.
When Wang Qi learned this, he was dumbfounded. After all, a large part of the reason he had fought so fiercely [though he could not die] was to seek out what the exiled immortal predecessors of humanity knew about the "Celestial Axis."
The Celestial Axis—the axis of the universe, the oldest and largest black hole—was where his, and more than half of humanity's, opportunity to attain the Dao lay. It had to be sought with all their strength.
Ordinarily, a Mahayana should possess memories of their former life—not necessarily all of them, but their self-awareness would surely originate from the immortal they had been before reincarnation. And many memories would be exceedingly clear.
There would be no such thing as "not remembering clearly"—what was remembered was remembered, and what was lost was lost.
Yet although Qingchao Zong had cultivated to the Mahayana Stage, he possessed no complete memories of his former self.
There was likely a problem here.
It might even be that Qingchao Zong's memories of his "previous life" had already been damaged.
