As I typed this line, I was actually very reluctant to do so.
I started writing this book in January 2015. I still remembered that my grandfather had passed away less than half a year earlier. Around that time, I quit Jianxia 3 and started posting this thing on X** to "train up my writing speed."
I never imagined that I would make a living from it, much less that it would turn a profit.
Then, in the blink of an eye, nearly four years had passed.
This book was the tail end of my youth.
I truly hated to see it end.
But I also had no choice but to speed up its conclusion.
On one hand, it was because of making a living.
As everyone could see, the first million characters I wrote were truly awful—so awful that when I looked at them myself, I felt ashamed enough to want to kill the version of me who had written that stuff. It only became passable at two million characters, and it was only at three million that it began to come into its own.
But that early material really held back the growth of my income.
After all, it drove too many readers away.
This book had also more or less hit a bottleneck. It was difficult for its income to rise any further. No matter how well I wrote the later parts, the number of new readers getting into it would still be limited. Its performance had not improved as much as I had hoped.
And the mortgage was genuinely terrifying.
When I bought the house, I took on a great deal of debt. Some of it came from the bank, and some from my relatives. No one had it easy. So I also wanted to write
