Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Crude Impure World Reincarnation body | 269 | Revived in a White Zetsu-based body. He lacks normal sensation and considers it too weak to be his primary means of return. 269 |
| Restricted reanimated combat state | 282 | Assesses the body as being below 30% of his prime strength; its limitations prevent him from freely using his Rinnegan’s ocular power. 282 |
| Wood Golem Armored Susanoo | 292 | Merges Susanoo’s Yin Release with the Wood Golem’s Yang Release. The qualitative fusion lets his output reach roughly 80% of his peak despite the body’s limitations. 292 |
| Improved Impure World Reincarnation body | 303–304 | Combines the Soil Rebirth Technique with Impure World Reincarnation, greatly restoring his speed and Chakra output. He can manifest Complete Body Susanoo and a Wood Golem at far greater scale than before. 303 304 |
History
Madara’s objective is the Eye of the Moon Plan: gathering the Tailed Beasts, reviving the Ten-Tails, and imposing a peaceful world through its power. He believes the Rinnegan is necessary to suppress the Ten-Tails and reach the Sage of Six Paths’ realm. Even after his death, Obito acts under Madara’s influence while advancing the plan. 113 145 267
After Konoha defeats Akatsuki’s invasion and Sarutobi Hiruzen takes Nagato’s Rinnegan, Black Zetsu activates Madara’s backup plan. Madara is revived through an inferior Impure World Reincarnation, learns that the Rinnegan and much of his organization are lost, and accepts his weakened state as a temporary measure. 269
Recognizing Hiruzen as an opponent capable of rivaling the Rinnegan, Madara avoids an immediate assault on Konoha. Instead, he targets smaller villages’ Jinchuriki to rebuild the Eye of the Moon Plan’s strength and seeks a way to improve his reanimated body. 270 271
Madara captures the Four-Tails with Wood Release, then attacks Turtle Island to seize further Jinchuriki. Although he captures several targets, Jiraiya and Uchiha Shisui force him to withdraw; Shisui’s space-time ninjutsu is one of the few threats Madara treats with genuine caution. 281 287 288
He continues the campaign with Obito’s assistance, captures the Seven-Tails, and begins sealing Tailed Beast Chakra into the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path. Hiruzen ultimately outmaneuvers him by using the genuine Rinnegan to summon away the statue and seize control of Madara’s accumulated gains. 291 295 300
After improving his reanimated body, Madara confronts Hiruzen at the Valley of the End. His enhanced Susanoo, Wood Release, Rinnegan techniques, and Izanagi still fail to overcome Hiruzen’s life-burning Eight Gates state. With one Rinnegan disabled by Izanagi’s backlash and his body repeatedly destroyed, Madara concedes defeat. 303 305
Appearance
Madara retains the imposing appearance of a legendary Uchiha warrior despite his reanimation, though his initial body is visibly unnatural and damaged. 280 303
- Long hair reaching his waist. 303
- Crimson armor. 303
- A cracked face and an aura that Roshi recognizes as unlike that of a living person. 280
- Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan and, when exerting higher ocular power, Rinnegan. 285 303
Personality
Madara is intensely proud, battle-hungry, and dismissive of opponents he considers weak. He prefers to break enemies psychologically, describing combat as “dancing” and treating survival against him as a form of mercy. 285 287
He respects exceptional strength regardless of allegiance. Sarutobi Hiruzen’s rise interests him as the first opponent in a long time worthy of comparison to Hashirama, while Shisui’s talent prompts Madara to offer him recruitment rather than immediately kill him. 270 287 300
His arrogance is tempered by practical battlefield judgment. He recognizes the limits of his reanimated body, retreats rather than risk being sealed by Shisui, and devotes himself to improving Impure World Reincarnation once Hiruzen proves too strong to defeat directly. 270 287 293
Abilities & Skills
Dōjutsu
Madara wields the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan and Rinnegan, giving him exceptional perception, ocular techniques, and control over Tailed Beast Chakra. His reanimated body initially restricts how much of this power he can use. 282 285 303
- Uses the Rinnegan’s Shinra Tensei to create repulsive force; when it fails to repel Hiruzen, the recoil launches Madara away instead. 305
- Summons multiple meteorites with Tengai Shinsei. 304
- Employs Phantom Dragon Nine Seals to extract and suppress Tailed Beast Chakra within the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path. 291
- Uses Izanagi to reverse his own destruction, though it damages the corresponding eye and strains his soul. 305
- Cannot activate Limbo: Border Jail through his Impure World Reincarnation body. 304
Susanoo
Madara manifests a massive purple Susanoo whose durability and regeneration force opponents to expend considerable power simply to breach it. 285 286
- Produces a Complete Body Susanoo hundreds of meters tall after improving his body. 304
- Combines Susanoo with a Wood Golem to create Wood Golem Armored Susanoo / Majestic Attire Susanoo. 292 304
- The combined construct fuses Yin and Yang Release, greatly increasing its quality beyond either component alone. 292
Wood Release
Madara’s Wood Release is a central part of his Tailed Beast-hunting strategy, capable of overwhelming Jinchuriki and draining their power. 281 285
- Wood Dragon Technique — binds the Four-Tails and absorbs Tailed Beast Chakra. 281
- Wood Clone Technique — creates combat-capable clones supplied with substantial Chakra. 285 295
- Wood Golem Technique — summons a colossal wooden giant that can be merged with Susanoo. 292 304
- Absorbs large volumes of water and chakra through surrounding vegetation, countering Hozuki Mangetsu’s Hydrification Technique. 285
Reanimated Body
Impure World Reincarnation grants Madara immortality and effectively unlimited Chakra, allowing him to continue fighting after severe damage. 285
- Can reconstruct a destroyed body from scattered material. 284
- Initially has poor physical responsiveness and less than 30% of his prime power. 282 284
- Improves the vessel by combining Impure World Reincarnation with the Soil Rebirth Technique. 303
- Remains vulnerable to techniques that directly overwhelm or disrupt the reanimation faster than it can recover. 305
Taijutsu and Combat Judgment
Madara’s close-combat skill was forged through the Warring States era. Even while weakened, he can contend with Sage Mode Jiraiya and casually overwhelm less experienced Jinchuriki. 284 285
- Uses his Sharingan’s perception and combat experience to read opponents’ techniques. 284 285
- Identifies the danger of Jiraiya’s natural-energy-assisted attacks after only one exchange. 285
- Alters plans when necessary, withdrawing from Shisui rather than risking a prolonged fight against space-time ninjutsu. 287 288
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Flame Gunbai — Uchiha clan war fan that absorbs incoming chakra techniques and converts them into Wind Release for counterattacks. 284
- Crimson armor — Madara’s customary battlefield armor. 303
Relationships
- Black Zetsu — Closest operational partner and the one who activates Madara’s revival plan; Madara regards him as more reliable than Obito. 269
- Uchiha Obito — Subordinate and space-time ninjutsu specialist assigned to support the Tailed Beast campaign; unbeknownst to Madara, Obito serves as Hiruzen’s mole. 282 293
- Sarutobi Hiruzen — Primary rival after Hiruzen seizes the Rinnegan and repeatedly defeats Madara’s reanimated body; Madara considers him comparable to Hashirama. 270 300 305
- Senju Hashirama — Madara’s historic benchmark and former rival; Madara repeatedly measures Hiruzen’s strength against Hashirama’s. 270 293 300
- Uchiha Shisui — A gifted Uchiha Madara attempts to recruit because of his eye power and space-time ninjutsu; Shisui refuses in favor of Konoha. 287
- Jiraiya — Opponent at Turtle Island; Madara considers Jiraiya’s Sage Mode incomplete but acknowledges the danger of its unpredictable natural-energy attacks. 285
