Background / History
The Fallen Lin Family
Lin Qingzhu belongs to the declining Lin Family of Fallen Leaf City in the Fengqin Kingdom. By the time Zhou Xuan investigates the estate, fewer than a hundred clansmen remain, only thirty or forty can cultivate, and Qingzhu is their strongest cultivator. She seeks revenge against City Lord Li Wei for her father and protection for her surviving family 196 197.
After witnessing Zhou Xuan rescue Little Stone, she approaches him with an offer to mediate with the Li Family. She identifies the boy’s Withered Spirit Death Curse, explains his connection to the fallen Shi Family, and proposes searching its secret realm for a cure. This information is also her bargaining chip: her real objective is to enlist Zhou Xuan against the City Lord’s Mansion 194 195.
Facing Li Yunfei’s harassment and the threat of forced concubinage, she prepares to gamble her life on revenge. She possesses Spirit Transmutation Powder as a means of assassinating Li Wei. Zhou Xuan accepts an alliance in exchange for secret-realm intelligence, anti-curse texts, a share of the spoils, and support for his local business 196.
Revenge and Family Betrayal
Qingzhu houses Zhou Xuan and Little Stone in the family’s best courtyard and rebukes Third Elder Lin Bao when he accuses their guest of fraud. She identifies Li Wei’s birthday banquet as her last opportunity to strike. At the banquet, she rejects Li Yunfei’s advances, and Zhou Xuan intervenes by crushing his wrist 197 198 199.
After Zhou Xuan demonstrates his strength, Qingzhu offers the Lin Family’s fortune in exchange for his help. He agrees and asks her to address him as “Brother Xuan.” He subsequently kills Li Wei, while Lin Bao exposes his betrayal and attempts to capture her 203 205.
The list recovered from Lin Bao’s Storage Bag reveals more than twenty family members who accepted benefits from the City Lord’s Mansion, including elders she trusted. Disillusioned with both her family and Fallen Leaf City, she accepts Zhou Xuan’s invitation to pursue a larger commercial venture. Before leaving, she confronts the traitors; Lin Bao is confirmed dead at her hands, and Second Elder Lin Yue leads resistance against her purge 206 207 208.
Cloud Pavilion in the Imperial Capital
Qingzhu accompanies Zhou Xuan to the Fengqin Kingdom’s capital, where they establish Cloud Pavilion’s business of selling restored artifacts. She gathers broad market intelligence while he investigates individual shops and prices. Her first assignment leaves her exhausted, but she returns with a densely written report 216 218 219.
Zhou Xuan later offers her thirty percent of the shop’s net profit. When he prepares to depart, he entrusts the established business to her and advises her to seek the Qin Family’s help with problems beyond her ability. She gives him a Sound Transmission Jade Pendant obtained through the Myriad Treasures Pavilion 245 269.
Ten Years of Separation
During their ten years apart, Qingzhu keeps Cloud Pavilion operating, survives the Demonic Calamity, and expands its trade routes across the Western Desolate Region. She reunites with Zhou Xuan in Jade Dragon City as an experienced commercial leader rather than the inexperienced shopkeeper he remembers 669.
She offers ten Storage Rings containing Cloud Pavilion’s mobilizable assets, trade-route records, and personnel roster to help relieve the city’s supply crisis. When he questions the cost to her business, she explains that a business can be rebuilt, whereas a lost opportunity to reunite may never return. Zhou Xuan subsequently returns all ten rings to her 669 671.
Alliance Financial Authority
Zhou Xuan places Qingzhu in charge of Alliance commerce, warehousing, Contribution Value accounting, and Cloud Pavilion reconstruction. Her appointment gives her core council standing equal to sect masters, command of Cloud Pavilion caravans, authority over part of the logistics guard, and power to punish financial fraud 672 673.
Her audit exposes falsified supply records and concealed or diverted goods from the Extreme Aperture, Extreme Defense, and Extreme Speed Sects. Their elders attack her legitimacy through insults and overwhelming spiritual pressure. Although physically hurt and frightened, she refuses to retreat. Zhou Xuan disperses their pressure, publicly calls her his Dao Companion, defeats the challengers, and declares that her orders carry his authority 673 674.
Qingzhu later approaches the distressed Qin Keqing and explains the political purpose of that declaration. She candidly admits that Qin’s talent may allow her to fight beside Zhou Xuan, while her own cultivation confines her to maintaining his rear lines. Their conversation replaces rivalry with understanding and strengthens Qingzhu’s resolve to become indispensable through administration 675 676.
Northern Lands and Central Province
When Zhou Xuan returns to the Western Desolate Region, Qingzhu remains responsible for Jade Dragon City’s finances, supplies, and accounts. She organizes warehouse stock, calculates academy consumption, and prepares a concealed reception for the seventeen wounded Spirit Sword Pavilion disciples he brings back. She then records their injuries, medicine requirements, and recovery estimates under Cloud Pavilion’s cover 678 679 690 691.
Her authority also extends to emergency resource deployment. During a crisis, she draws her sword and orders reluctant stewards to pour thirty-six Dharma Artifacts and three thousand jin of immortal vein ore into the vow power formation core 737.
Zhou Xuan takes her on his first commercial expedition to Central Province specifically “to do business,” despite objections to her low cultivation. There she assists with negotiations, challenges unreliable assurances from powerful allies, monitors intelligence from the Northern Lands, and repeatedly arranges care for Zhou Xuan after dangerous operations 759 793 794 841 901.
Appearance
At her debut, Qingzhu has a pretty face, a slender figure, and the poised manners of a well-bred young lady 194.
- Eyes: Clear, initially showing curiosity and anticipation toward Zhou Xuan 194.
- Hair: Dark; worn loose during the Lin Family confrontation and in a tidy bun during her early shopkeeping years 208 690.
- Northern Lands attire: Thick cloaks, including a plain blue-green cloak at her reunion with Zhou Xuan 669 690.
- Professional insignia: Cloud Pavilion’s specially made shopkeeper’s waist token 690.
Personality
Qingzhu initially combines refined courtesy with desperation and a fierce refusal to submit. She uses the Shi Family’s secrets to negotiate rather than pleading without leverage, and she is prepared to die rather than accept humiliation from the City Lord’s household. Discovering widespread betrayal within her own family hardens her willingness to punish those she once trusted 195 196 206 208.
Her later composure is earned through years of trade, upheaval, and responsibility. She approaches crises through records, supply calculations, and contingency planning, but does not pretend to be fearless: when Zhou Xuan asks whether the sect elders frighten her, she admits they do and still refuses to withdraw 669 673 678 679.
Her devotion to Zhou Xuan coexists with painful awareness of their cultivation gap. She envies Qin Keqing’s ability to accompany him into battle, yet refuses to turn that envy into hostility. Instead, she resolves to close whatever distance she can by becoming the administrator he cannot replace 675 676.
She is increasingly blunt when his safety is at stake. In Central Province, she questions even Longevity Realm experts, demands concrete safeguards, and reminds Zhou Xuan that his disappearance would endanger not only the Northern Lands but also leave her behind again 793 794 807.
