Background

Yang Wudi is the Old Ancestor of the Northern Lands branch of the Yang Clan. He spent a century in seclusion and secretly attained mid-stage Spirit Transformation through a blood-qi art whose conflicting cultivation methods left hidden flaws. He had monitored Zhou Xuan from the moment Zhou entered the clan’s Secret Realm carrying the Golden Crow Ancestral Token, initially considering expelling or killing him and seizing his treasure. 586

When the Extreme Bone Sect attempted to negotiate during the Demonic Calamity, Yang Wudi answered their past suppression of the Yang Clan by imposing his own terms. He shattered their Ancient Sound Transmission Formation’s hub with a single strike, ending the conversation by force. 584

Zhou Xuan exposed the instability in Yang Wudi’s cultivation and demonstrated that he could withstand his pressure. Realizing that the Yang Clan could not survive the Demonic Calamity by relying on its existing methods, Yang Wudi accepted Zhou Xuan’s authority in exchange for a path to preserve the clan’s bloodline and grow stronger. 585 586

Appearance

Yang Wudi is a rugged, middle-aged man of exceptional size and physical presence. His body-cultivator aura manifests as dark-golden blood-qi and flame-like vitality, accompanied by intense heat and oppressive pressure. 584

  • Extremely tall and bear-like in build, with broad hands and heavily developed musculature. 634
  • Rugged face, bright piercing eyes, and a bald head. 584 599
  • Often wears coarse gray hemp clothes; he later leads troops in heavy armor. 588 610
  • Dark-golden flames and demonic patterns can appear across his body when he releases his strength. 584 614

Personality

Yang Wudi projects wild arrogance, bluntness, and a readiness to settle disputes through overwhelming force. He is fiercely protective of the Yang Clan and resents the Extreme Sects’ historical treatment of his family. 584

Despite his rough manner, he is pragmatic and calculating. His initial display of strength toward Zhou Xuan was partly meant to establish the Yang Clan’s value as a potential ally, and he refrained from attacking the Extreme Sects after recognizing that a premature conflict would destroy his clan. 586 588

He begins with a body cultivator’s faith in personal strength and direct suppression, but repeatedly adapts after Zhou Xuan exposes the limits of that outlook. By the time Jade Dragon City is established, he follows Zhou Xuan’s long-term strategy while retaining a ruthless willingness to eliminate threats. 608 624

Abilities & Skills

Mid-Stage Spirit Transformation Body Cultivation

Yang Wudi is a mid-stage Spirit Transformation body cultivator whose physical body and blood-qi have undergone a qualitative transformation. His pressure alone can threaten ordinary Golden Core cultivators, while his brute force can destroy formations built to endure a peak Nascent Soul strike. 584

  • Releases dark-golden blood-qi capable of distorting the surrounding space. 614
  • Tore open a spatial rift through brute force when returning from failed negotiations. 588
  • Withstood a combined Blood-Qi Spear formed by 300 disciples using only his physical defense, though the attack forced him back and left a mark on his palm. 591 592
  • Can fight high-rank Demonic Beasts directly and lead charges through the Devil Tide. 614

Blood-Qi Command and Formation Warfare

As the Yang Clan’s ancestor and commander, Yang Wudi directs large-scale body-cultivator formations and personally tests their combat potential. 591 592

  • Ordered the assembly of 300 core disciples to form the Blood-Qi Resonance Formation. 591
  • Tested the formation’s ten-zhang Blood-Qi Spear head-on, confirming that it could challenge far stronger opponents through coordinated blood-qi. 591 592
  • Led 1,000 Yang Clan elites using the Blood-Qi Combined Attack Formation to break through a Devil Tide. 614
  • Commands the reorganization and deployment of surrendered cultivators from the Extreme Speed and Extreme Aperture Sects. 616 624

Vow-Power Divine Statue

A hundred-zhang divine statue bearing Yang Wudi’s likeness was created above Yulong Isolated City through Zhou Xuan’s use of Spiritual Power and the Vow Power of a million mortals. The statue healed Yang Wudi’s hidden injuries, but it is not under his control. 598

  • Acts according to the prayers of the city’s mortals rather than Yang Wudi’s divine sense. 598
  • Erased tens of thousands of Skeleton Demonic Beasts in three breaths without leaving corpses or blood. 601
  • Replenishes its power through renewed Vow Power generated by the people’s faith and gratitude. 601
  • Requires Yang Wudi and the Yang Clan to maintain their role as protectors; he fears the statue’s power but is told it follows the operating rules of Vow Power rather than an independent will. 601
