Yet the alien spacecraft actually reacted. It trembled slightly, and an entrance appeared in its smooth hull.

Chen Zhao's heart raced, and his hands trembled slightly as he continued controlling the Machine Slave. It approached the entrance and climbed inside on all fours.
The entrance closed behind it.

The interior of the spacecraft appeared on the large screen before Chen Zhao, and simultaneously on the screens before the many officials of the United Nations Security Council's five permanent members.
It was not the full interior, only a single compartment.
The compartment was not large. It resembled an interrogation room at a police station, except it had no doors or windows—only gleaming white walls, smooth as freshly melted ice. There were no corners where the walls met the floor and ceiling, only smooth curves. It was a room without sharp angles.
The Machine Slave wandered around this "interrogation room" in confusion but found nothing. Chen Zhao felt that this place resembled the inside of a bubble. He was like a fly that had flown into one.
