At Anbu Headquarters, in the office of the head of the Inspection Department—cough, that was, Houka's office—two masked ninjas dressed in Anbu uniforms stood there.

The two stood ramrod straight, each silent.

Before long, the office door was pushed open, and Houka himself hurried in.

Rubbing his head, he walked to his seat and sat down, his gaze moving back and forth between the two Anbu.

One of them was the Wood Release user, Yamato.

He was the bargaining chip Hiruzen Sarutobi had presumptuously used to exchange for Haku.

The other was someone who had only recently joined the Anbu... Uchiha Itachi!

Houka's head throbbed. He had only been away on a mission to Hoshigakure for a little over half a month, yet the moment he returned, he received such a huge gift package.

Uchiha Itachi?

Even if he joined the Anbu, why would he be assigned here?

Shouldn't he have gone to Kakashi's squad?

Houka sighed, feeling as though he had been handed a hot potato.

Uchiha Fugaku had finally agreed to let Itachi enter the Anbu as a spy!

Houka checked the documents on the desk and discovered that on the day Uchiha Itachi entered the Anbu, Uchiha Shisui had left it.

Why did this arrangement feel so familiar?

Houka looked at Yamato, then at the slightly shorter Uchiha Itachi, and Hiruzen Sarutobi's sleazy smiling face surfaced in his mind.

Houka remained silent, while Yamato and Uchiha Itachi said even less. The atmosphere in the office grew increasingly awkward.

As their immediate superior, Houka felt he ought to take the lead, so he said, "Yamato, Uchiha Itachi, now that you've joined the Anbu, you need to work even harder. Get promoted and get
