After leaving Mount Myōboku, Jiraiya hurriedly left the women's bathhouse, intending to return to Konoha, when he suddenly remembered something.

The Great Toad Sage had lived for thousands of years. To it, time held no meaning. A single nap might last years, or even decades. What was he in such a rush for?

Jiraiya tossed his white hair, swayed his head, and charged back into the women's bathhouse to continue gathering material for his new work.

A few days later, Jiraiya left the women's bathhouse with a swollen face and bruises all over. He then headed toward the Land of Fire, gathering material for a few days whenever he passed through a town. Life was quite enjoyable.

A month later, after hurrying all the way, he returned to Konoha.

Ever since Orochimaru had defected all those years ago, Jiraiya had not returned for many years.

After a simple disguise, he blended into a merchant caravan and easily entered Konoha. Then, familiar with the route, he went to the women's bathhouse to soak, gather material, and relax for an entire day.

It was not until the next day that he began handling proper business.

He first went to Houka's mansion, only to find it long abandoned. Even the furniture inside was covered in dust.

Jiraiya enthusiastically cleaned out a room and moved in, treating himself as anything but an outsider.

Afterward, he went to the Hatake Residence and intercepted Kakashi in the middle of the night as he returned home from work in the Anbu.

Kakashi walked beneath the dim yellow streetlights, a manga with its cover torn off in hand. With half-lidded dead-fish eyes, he ambled forward without much purpose.
