Ch. 1121Transplant
Chapter Summary: “Transplant”
Key Plot Points and Events
- Uchiha Shin’s transplanted Rinnegan is revealed to be especially dangerous for him. Unlike Orochimaru, who fused the Rinnegan through the Chimera Technique, Shin’s body merely accepts transplanted organs without rejecting them. He lacks the immense vitality of Nagato’s Uzumaki heritage, so using the Rinnegan rapidly drains his life force.
- Shin has already begun aging visibly, with gray hair and wrinkles appearing only months after the transplant.
- During his battle with Sasuke, Shin uses the Six Paths of Pain and expends enormous energy on powerful ocular techniques. His Super Shinra Tensei fails to kill Sasuke, while Sasuke destroys five of the six Paths with Amaterasu.
- Enraged and desperate, Shin uses Deva Path Pain to activate the forbidden technique Planetary Devastation.
- The technique creates a black gravitational sphere that pulls up everything nearby—debris, corpses, trees, rocks, and entire sections of earth. The Allied Shinobi Forces and Akatsuki’s clone army are endangered because the technique affects allies and enemies indiscriminately.
- Sasuke’s Complete Body Susanoo is dragged toward the growing mass of rock. Although he uses its wings to resist and Amaterasu to burn away incoming boulders, the endless supply of rocks overwhelms him.
- The rock sphere grows from roughly one thousand meters to more than three thousand meters in diameter, eventually burying the Complete Body Susanoo. Deva Path Pain continues supplying power and declares that Sasuke should be proud of forcing him to such extremes.
- Meanwhile, at Allied Shinobi Forces headquarters, Yakushi Kabuto performs a transplant on Houka, inserting cells taken from Naruto’s blood.
- Houka immediately experiences an intense, volcanic heat spreading through his body as the transplanted cells begin fusing with him. Kabuto recognizes that the process cannot be assisted and leaves Houka alone to endure it.
Character Developments
- Uchiha Shin: His desperation and fury become increasingly apparent. Despite the severe physical cost of using the Rinnegan, he refuses to retreat after Sasuke defeats most of his Paths. His willingness to sacrifice his remaining life force demonstrates his obsession with victory and his reckless determination.
- Sasuke: He proves capable of surviving Shin’s strongest techniques and destroying five Paths of Pain. However, Planetary Devastation places even his Complete Body Susanoo under overwhelming pressure, showing the limits of his current power.
- Yakushi Kabuto: He acts as a skilled but cautious medical ninja, successfully performing Houka’s transplant while understanding that the dangerous fusion process must be endured without interference.
- Houka: He begins a major transformation through Naruto’s cells. The procedure causes severe physical distress, but his survival and ability to merge with the cells remain uncertain.
- Naruto: Though absent from the chapter’s main action, his Sage Body and cells become central to Houka’s possible enhancement.
Significant Themes
- Power at the cost of life: The Rinnegan grants extraordinary destructive ability but consumes Shin’s vitality, reinforcing the danger of pursuing power beyond one’s natural limits.
- Desperation and obsession: Shin’s continued escalation after suffering losses shows how rage can drive a fighter to use increasingly destructive and self-destructive methods.
- Indiscriminate destruction: Planetary Devastation threatens both sides, emphasizing how overwhelming power can erase the distinction between ally and enemy.
- Transformation through sacrifice: Houka’s transplant suggests that gaining new abilities requires enduring pain and risking one’s identity, body, and survival.
- Natural compatibility versus forced power: Shin can accept transplanted organs but lacks the life force needed to use them safely, while Houka’s fusion with Naruto’s cells may offer a more stable path to enhanced power.
Character Interactions
- Shin and Sasuke: Their confrontation escalates from Shin’s use of the Six Paths of Pain to the ultimate deployment of Planetary Devastation. Sasuke’s resistance humiliates Shin and pushes him into a final, desperate attack.
- Deva Path Pain and Sasuke: Deva Path’s technique overwhelms Sasuke’s Susanoo, while Deva Path verbally acknowledges Sasuke’s strength before burying him beneath the expanding rock sphere.
- Mifune and the Allied Shinobi Forces: Mifune recognizes the danger of Planetary Devastation and orders the forces to retreat even farther from the battlefield.
- Kabuto and Houka: Kabuto performs the transplant and monitors Houka’s reaction, but ultimately leaves him to complete the painful fusion on his own.
