Lin Lei laughed when he heard that, and couldn't help thinking, Big Brother Lei Lin and I really are fated to meet!
As he laughed, Lei Lin surveyed his surroundings. He knew that the difference between his strength and Beirut's was enormous. Even if Beirut were right beside him, Lin Lei would never detect him if Beirut didn't want to be found. Still, he couldn't help sensing the area around him.
There was no helping it. Beirut, a Main God-level powerhouse, was already watching him when he was just starting to grow. Lin Lei had to be cautious. After all, humans didn't pay attention to the ants by the roadside; one careless step could crush one to death!
I've been spending so much time with Beibei, and nothing's happened. That means either Beirut isn't paying attention to us right now, or I'm not even worth noticing.
But that's only natural. He is... a Main God, after all!

Beibei's true strength was one of Lin Lei's trump cards. Since Lin Lei didn't know that Lei Lin was aware of his background, he thought it over briefly before answering, "Beibei is probably a mutated Shadow Mouse. That's why he's a little faster and stronger than ordinary Shadow Mice."
Lei Lin stroked Beibei's smooth fur. "You're really lucky. Generally speaking, as long as a mutated magical beast survives, it'll be stronger than others of its kind, even if it can't surpass the limits of its race."
"Raise him well. He'll definitely become a great asset to you!"
Lin Lei nodded and gave Beibei a juicy, dripping wolf leg. Then he asked Lei Lin for advice on gaining experience in the Magic Beast Mountain Range.
The two chatted on and off until late into the night.
The next day.
Lin Lei woke up, saw the note on his body, and twitched the corner of his mouth.
The note read: "The biggest taboo in the Magic Beast Mountain Range is trusting others too easily. If there's a next time, the bloodstain on your neck might not be just a bloodstain!"
He touched the strange spot on his neck and looked at the dark red liquid on his hand. Big Brother Lei Lin really is a character!
At the same time, Beibei's voice rang out in his mind. "Boss, that Lei Lin is still watching you make a fool of yourself!"
Lin Lei froze and contacted Beibei mentally. "Watching me make a fool of myself? What do you mean?"
Beibei climbed onto his shoulder and pointed a tiny paw at a big tree. "Lei Lin was hiding in that tree just now!"
Lin Lei reflexively looked toward the tree, but saw nothing. Doehring emerged from the ring on his hand and said, "Don't bother looking. He's already gone."
"What an interesting little fellow!"
Lin Lei rubbed his temples. "Grandpa Doehring, can you tell me what happened?"
Doehring and Beibei then told Lin Lei that after he and Lei Lin had talked late into the night and fallen asleep, Lei Lin had only pretended to be asleep. He kept watch until dawn, then, when Lin Lei was about to wake up, placed the note on him and drew a line of blood on his neck with a finger dipped in wolf's blood.
Good. The plan went smoothly. That was an excellent way to start making friends. Unfortunately, spending a long time together doesn't fit my role. Otherwise, I could team up with Lin Lei to hunt magical beasts in the Magic Beast Mountain Range and quickly grow closer to him.
Still, a brief parting will make our next meeting all the better!
The seed's been planted. Now I just have to wait for Nina to gut Lin Lei and for the seed of friendship to sprout in his heart!
Several days later, at night.
A flash of cold light streaked past. The young Controller Lin Lei finally experienced the first life-or-death crisis of his life. But what hurt him most wasn't his physical injuries; it was the blow to his heart.
He never would have imagined that human nature could be so vile. If Beibei hadn't already bitten off half of Nina's head, he would have wanted to ask her why she had done it.
"Cough... cough, cough... So... people like Big Brother Lei Lin... really are... few and far between... in the Magic... Beast Mountain... Range..."
Hidden nearby, Lei Lin kept up his Electromagnetic Induction without pause as he monitored the situation. Good. Lin Lei's fate of being gutted hasn't changed. It happened just as it should have.
There's no need to use the backup plan that risked exposing me!
Stay calm. I can't show myself just yet, or it'll seem far too "coincidental." With Lin Lei's constitution, he won't die for a while, so there's plenty of room for error. I can wait.
I should wait until Beibei uses Dark Magic to stabilize Lin Lei's injuries, then give it a little more time before showing up. That'll make the timing feel natural.
Stay calm...
Half a quarter of an hour later.
While chasing a Breeze Eagle, Lei Lin "happened" to come across Lin Lei and Beibei. When he saw Lin Lei was gravely injured, he immediately abandoned his prey and helped treat him.
After pouring five or six different kinds of magical potions into Lin Lei, Lei Lin made sure his injuries were stable before "surveying" the surroundings again.
Looking at the half of Nina's head that remained, he thought, Though she's only got half her head left, you can still tell she was a sweet little thing.
But in the original story, I remember Beibei crushed her entire head. Is this a case of the details being allowed to change, but the overall course of events staying the same?
Ugh... I'd better be careful. The more of the original story I interfere with, the less reliable it'll be.
At the very least, I'll have to plan more carefully when it comes to the details!
Holding the bloodstained dagger, Lei Lin remarked, "Looks like that little beauty got the jump on you, Lin Lei. No surprise, though. You're a rookie, and you lack experience!"
Beibei immediately squeaked in protest!
Beibei was still furious that Lin Lei had been ambushed. If he hadn't gotten along well with Lei Lin before, known that Lei Lin wasn't a bad person, and seen him use potions to stabilize Lin Lei's injuries the moment he arrived, Beibei would definitely have taken out some of his pent-up anger on him!
Lei Lin replied helplessly, "All right, all right. I can't understand what you're saying, little guy, but I'm guessing it's not anything nice. I won't badmouth your master anymore."
He then went over to Lin Lei and carefully examined his condition. With a sigh, he said, "Magic is all well and good, but with a body like yours, why don't you find yourself a Battle Qi Manual and train?"
"If you'd had Battle Qi protecting you, you wouldn't have been hurt so badly!"
As he spoke, sparks of electricity flickered across Lei Lin's body. He guided them toward the wound in Lin Lei's abdomen, stimulating the cells and helping Lin Lei recover more quickly.
