The club introductions ended with a speech by Student Council President Horikita Manabu.
Ignoring Horikita Suzune as she left in a daze, as well as Ayanokōji chatting with The Trio,
Kamigami Haruo decided to work out on the field first.
He would wait until the dinner rush had passed before going to the student cafeteria to eat.
Come to think of it, the ingredients and food he had bought yesterday felt like a waste. So far, he had only drunk a carton of milk.
He set an alarm for eight in the evening on his phone, then stopped by a vending machine to buy several bottles of mineral water.
"Hello, Kamigami."
A familiar voice reached Kamigami Haruo's ears.
When he turned around, all he saw at first was a pair of jade-like legs. Most of his view was blocked by hair, so he could only look upward.
It was little angel Kushida.
"Hello, Kushida. Is something wrong?"
"Come to think of it, I still need to thank you for yesterday, Kamigami. I... I want to treat you to dinner as thanks for what happened yesterday. Would that be okay?"
Seeing that both of his hands were holding bottles of mineral water, Kushida Kikyo gave up on the intimate gesture of asking for a handshake.
If Kamigami Haruo had known that, he would have thrown the water away long ago.
"But it's still early. How about a little later? Let's exchange contact information, and we can make plans afterward."
Looking at the time on his phone, Kamigami Haruo decided that although he was a little hungry, he would work out for a while and eat later that evening.
"Ah... okay, Kamigami. I've wanted to talk to you in class for a while, but I never found the chance. I'm looking forward to having dinner with you, hehe."
Kushida Kikyo cutely touched her head, like a clumsy yet adorable junior girl.
The two took out their phones and exchanged contact information before parting ways.
As for why she had suddenly approached him and offered to treat him to dinner, Kamigami Haruo could more or less guess her purpose.
Still, with the mindset of getting a free meal, he decided to accept the invitation. He only hoped Kushida Kikyo would not regret it.
Taking the towel from his bag, Kamigami Haruo wiped down his body and looked at the sky, which had already been swallowed by darkness.
It was probably seven o'clock.
Hopefully Kushida Kikyo would not faint from hunger in her dorm, though that possibility was nearly nonexistent.
Her future title as the popularity queen was no exaggeration.
Feeling that he could drag things out a little longer, Kamigami Haruo headed toward the dorms.
After taking a shower and wasting a little more time, it was already seven thirty.
"Sorry, Kushida. I didn't keep you waiting long, did I? See you at seven thirty."
That was the message he sent.
"Kamigami!"
Before Kamigami Haruo even reached the student cafeteria, he saw Kushida Kikyo waving in front of it.
After greeting each other, they walked in side by side and stopped in front of the ticket machine.
Kushida Kikyo ordered a set meal for herself first, then swiped her student ID card for Kamigami Haruo to order.
"Go ahead and choose, Kamigami. I'll pay."
Under Kushida Kikyo's astonished gaze, Kamigami Haruo selected three set meals with plenty of meat.
They cost around 1,400 PR.
After taking the meal tickets, he gave Kushida Kikyo a slightly bashful expression.
Though with his eyes hidden behind his hair, he just looked like a pervert.
After calming herself down, Kushida Kikyo put on a generous smile.
"Can you finish all that, Kamigami? You can't waste food."
"No problem at all. Since Kushida is treating me, I'll finish everything no matter what."
First, make the other person a little disappointed, then give them a result that surpassed what they wanted.
That should raise her favorability by at least a tiny bit, right?
Kamigami Haruo thought this as he carried his tray.
Watching Kushida Kikyo help carry the trays as well, then set them down at a table,
he could not help sighing. She really was an angel.
"Thanks for the meal. Huh?"
Kushida Kikyo looked at Kamigami Haruo beside her. He was already eating.
Seeing this, Kushida Kikyo began eating too.
The two figures walked along the road back to the dorm buildings.
"Kushida, you really are like an angel. Can I call you by your given name from now on, Kushida?"
"Hm? Things are moving a little fast, but if that's what you like, Kamigami, I don't mind. Then I'll call you Haruo from now on."
"Kikyo, thank you for the meal today. If you ever need help in the future, feel free to ask me."
Seeing that the atmosphere was about right,
Kamigami Haruo went straight to the point and waited for her to ask him for help.
"Um, if it's okay with you, Haruo, would you like to sit down with me and rest for a bit? We could chat."
He looked in the direction Kushida Kikyo was pointing. There was a park bench there.
Before Kamigami Haruo could react, Kushida Kikyo took his hand and led him over.
He simply let her lead him to the bench, where they sat down together.
"Um... it's just a small thing. Today, I saw you and Horikita together at the club orientation, and I also heard classmates saying that they saw you having dinner with Horikita last night. Could it be that you and Horikita are close?"
"We get along well enough, I guess? What's wrong, Kikyo? As for her, normal people would find it hard to get along with her."
"It's just... um, I want to become friends with everyone in our class as soon as possible, so I've been asking people for their contact information one by one. But Horikita refused me."
Kushida Kikyo then asked many questions about Horikita Suzune.
"I understand that you want to get along with everyone, but you can't rush these things, Kikyo."
"If you approach her so frequently, it'll make her feel troubled. And she'll wonder whether you have some motive for being so eager to get to know her."
"Then, then do you have any way for me to get along well with her, Haruo?"
Kushida Kikyo seemed to have already regarded Kamigami Haruo as her savior.
She moved closer to Kamigami Haruo, her sparkling eyes staring at the eyes hidden beneath his hair.
A floral fragrance wafted toward him, and Kamigami Haruo quietly enjoyed it without showing any reaction.
"It's simple. Just treat her like an unreasonable junior. But the premise is that you can't keep bothering her, or she'll come to hate you."
"I see... Thank you, Haruo!"
"Let's head back together."
On the way back, the two occasionally chatted about matters related to the school.
Only when the elevator reached the fourth floor did they have no choice but to part, looking like a loving couple reluctant to separate.
"See you tomorrow, Kikyo."
"See you tomorrow, Haruo."
After returning to his room, Kamigami Haruo sighed and climbed onto his bed.
Dealing with Kushida Kikyo the entire time had left him a little tired, but it still counted as taking a step forward.
As if he had remembered something important, he got up, checked the time, then opened the refrigerator and took out the ingredients.
He had said he would make a bento, but he had no idea how to make one.
He tried searching online with his phone for simple and delicious cooking tutorials.
After finding several decent cooking tutorials, he prepared the ingredients and seasonings.
Looking at the completely empty stove, he silently opened the cabinet beneath the counter, intending to take out a pot.
But when he saw that the cabinet was completely empty too, Kamigami Haruo fell into deep thought.
Had he become a clown?
How was he supposed to cook without any kitchenware?
Or should he just grill a steak over a fire?
A "ding" seemed to ring in Kamigami Haruo's mind, and the corners of his mouth curled upward.
He placed two pounds of beef into a container, then sprinkled in some seasoning to marinate it.
After a series of busy preparations, Kamigami Haruo turned on the gas stove.
