As soon as he stepped outside, Jiang Linyuan sent the Department Head a message, then drove over to her house.
On the way, he bought some gift boxes and fruit.
The Department Head's family probably didn't need any of it, but it was the thought that counted. He wanted to make sure they knew he'd come bearing good wishes.
When he arrived, he knocked.
"You brought the car back so soon? Won't you need it over winter break for the New Year?"
Shen Wanyu opened the door and asked before she even saw Jiang Linyuan.
"My family kept asking about the car, and it got annoying. Figured I might as well just buy one."
Jiang Linyuan lifted the gift boxes in his hands.
"Won't the Department Head let me in for a bit? I came to wish you an early happy New Year."
"Take those things back with you. Mom and I have no use for them."
Though Shen Wanyu said that, she turned and walked into the house without closing the door.
"It's fine. I'll just come by your place more often from now on. I can use them."
Jiang Linyuan followed her inside with a grin. Not seeing his Great Mother-in-law, he asked, "Where's your aunt?"
"She's taking a nap."
Shen Wanyu picked up the teapot, poured a cup of tea, and handed it to Jiang Linyuan.
Jiang Linyuan set the gifts down wherever he could and took the tea.
"Were you taking a nap too, Department Head?"
"Something like that. I stopped when you messaged to say you were bringing the car back."
Shen Wanyu poured herself another cup of tea and took a sip.
"Are you blaming me, Department Head?"
"If I wanted to blame you, I wouldn't need to make up an excuse like that."
