Yu Songsong saw Jiang Linyuan's reply. She typed out a long message, then deleted it all. In the end, she sent just one line:
"Will you be coming to the Student Union gathering tomorrow night, senior?"
After sending it, she stared at Jiang Linyuan's WeChat profile picture, steeled herself, and blocked him in one go. Then she set her phone face down beside her pillow.
She didn't want to see Jiang Linyuan's answer.
Whether it was good or bad.
Yu Songsong curled up under the covers like a wounded hedgehog.
You treat me so well. Why did you turn me down?
If you don't like me, why are you so good to me?
She thought this in the darkness, but didn't dwell on it any further. All she wanted now was to get some sleep.
Maybe when she woke up the next day, she wouldn't think about any of it anymore.
The next day, Yu Songsong woke up a little later than usual. She didn't have class in the morning, so it didn't matter.
She got out of bed and went to the mirror. Her eyes were crusted with dried tears, and her hair was dry and messy.
She looked completely worn out.
So ugly.
That was what she thought.
She washed up quickly without putting on makeup, then made herself a cup of cold medicine. Only then did she feel a little more alive.
She took care of some matters related to the sports meet that morning, but her head was spinning.
Yu Songsong glanced at the WeChat profile picture she still hadn't dared to tap, then turned off her phone.
Back in her dorm, she lay straight down on her bed.
When she woke up again, her throat felt dry and sore.
She checked the time. Five thirty.
