The old king made small talk, forcing out a topic.
Pope Xis glanced at him and said bluntly, "From my standpoint, of course I hope Holy Rite Academy takes the championship."
"Mm, that's understandable." The old king smiled with narrowed eyes, then turned to Alvitr and asked, "What about you?"
Alvitr frowned. "Saint Marian Academy." She felt that this was a question of questions, utterly meaningless. Yet after hearing her answer, the old king merely nodded and continued, "In that case, I can only stand with Royal Academy... How about we make a bet?"
He suddenly suggested a "bet."
But how could the pope and the Valkyrie possibly pick up that thread? The two of them simply pretended not to hear him.
Yet the old king would not let it go. "If Royal Academy happens to win—"
"Austin, that would be inappropriate, wouldn't it?" Pope Xis directly interrupted him. "I have never gambled in my life."
The old king smiled without taking offense. "Then we won't bet. But tell me, don't you think the weather is wonderful today?"
Why didn't you just ask what we had for breakfast this morning? Alvitr rolled her eyes, her irritation surging.
Still, when the three of them got together, they really could not manage a single normal sentence.
The only one to blame was the old king's fried brain. He just had to drag the two of them over to watch the match!
Alvitr really wanted to ask him, "Do you have no friends?"
Austin: "..."
Alvitr: "Oh dear, I accidentally said that out loud."
Austin: "..."
Xis: "Ahem! The contestants are entering."
Eight o'clock sharp.
The bells ringing from the Spiral Clock Tower carried into the Open-Air Duel Hall. The audience, who had long since arrived via spatial hub projection, instantly perked up.
