A few days later.
The 16th Branch Base suddenly sounded its alarm.
"Base Commander, a large pirate ship is approaching."
The sentence gave Colonel Mouse a massive fright.
A large pirate ship meant at least several hundred pirates, but that wasn't the most critical part; the key was that the captain leading so many pirates must be unimaginably strong.
However, it was rare for pirates to assault a Marine Base.
Had the pirates of the East Blue gone insane?
"Assemble... wait."
Colonel Mouse was about to order the soldiers to assemble, but he stopped mid-sentence.
"Vice Admiral Garp's ship is still at the dock."
Colonel Mouse suddenly remembered this.
He didn't know where Vice Admiral Garp had gone, but the soldiers on the ship were still there.
These were the elites who had followed Vice Admiral Garp to suppress pirates in the New World.
Not to mention that Vice Admiral Garp's adjutant, Colonel Bogard, was there to hold the fort.
Colonel Mouse calmed down immediately and rushed toward the dock with his men.
Since there was no danger, he naturally had to put on a show.
It would be embarrassing if the battle ended before he even arrived.
The alarm continued to blare, and the residents of the town surrounding the Marine Base were bewildered.
What on earth was going on?
"Prepare for combat!"
At the dock, Bogard shouted his orders. The soldiers on the warship moved quickly, and the cannons were already aimed in the direction spotted by the lookout.
Bogard was also a bit confused.
Garp's warship was a standard Marine vessel, much larger than a pirate ship.
With such a large warship docked here, what pirate ship would dare to charge in?
He had never noticed the East Blue pirates being this brave before.
Bogard looked suspicious as he stood at the bow, watching the rapidly approaching pirate ship.
With his keen eyesight, he naturally spotted a figure standing at the bow of the speeding pirate ship.
As it drew closer, Bogard raised his hand to give the order, but then his brow furrowed.
Wait a minute, that person looked somewhat familiar.
The sense of familiarity stopped Bogard from giving the order to attack, and the Marine soldiers didn't find it strange, remaining on high alert.
"Wait, it's that guy!"
Dunn had changed a lot over the past year, especially in his physique; he was much taller and more robust than a year ago.
However, his facial features hadn't changed much, though the childishness had faded quite a bit.
The reason Bogard found him familiar was that he had caught a glimpse of him from afar back in Shimotsuki Village, and now, connecting that with the purpose of their current mission, he finally realized who the newcomer was.
But wasn't this guy a Pirate Hunter?
How did he become a pirate?
Colonel Mouse had also arrived and saw that the soldiers on Garp's flagship were ready.
Yet, they had delayed firing their cannons.
He was puzzled, but he didn't dare to ask, so he could only watch honestly.
Then, they, along with some workers at the port, watched helplessly as the speeding pirate ship approached the dock before suddenly slowing down to pull alongside.
Standing at the bow, Dunn saw the Dog-Head Warship from afar.
Although puzzled, he didn't hesitate and immediately ordered the pirates to slow down and approach.
The pirate ship came to a steady stop at the dock, not far from the massive Marine warship.
Bogard stood at the bow of the warship, his hand on his sword hilt as he looked down at the pirate ship. From here, he could see clearly that the deck was packed with pirates.
The proportions were wrong!
Wait, what was this?
With just a glance, Bogard saw that many of the pirates were injured, and there were quite a few heads piled together in a spot where no pirates dared to go near.
So, this guy went out to sea to hunt pirates, and then brought them back by ship?
But what was going on here?
Just how many Pirate crews has he attacked?
While Bogard was lost in thought, Dunn leaped down from the Pirate ship below and landed on the dock right in front of Colonel Mouse.
"Hey, I've brought you some credit."
Dunn pointed toward the Pirate ship behind him.
Colonel Mouse looked completely bewildered.
"Huh?"
Clearly, Dunn's words had caused Colonel Mouse's brain to short-circuit.
What kind of decent person captures Pirates and brings the entire Pirate ship along with them?
Oh, it's Dunn; that explains it.
Colonel Mouse suddenly recalled that the first time he met Dunn, this guy had rounded up an entire ship of Pirates and delivered them in one go.
But this time?
He looked at the sea of heads poking out and peering over from the Pirate ship, a dense, dark mass of them.
He gulped.
"What? You're not taking them?"
Seeing that Colonel Mouse didn't answer, Dunn frowned and spoke up.
"We'll take them!"
A strange voice rang out as Bogard stepped down from the warship, followed by squads of Marine soldiers.
"They will assist you in detaining these Pirates."
After Bogard walked over, he issued an order to Colonel Mouse.
"Yes, sir!"
Although they were of the same rank, a Colonel from Headquarters was three grades higher than a counterpart from a branch.
Then, Bogard watched as the soldiers boarded the Pirate ship to escort the Pirates off.
One by one, the Pirates were marched down.
But there clearly weren't enough hands.
The first batch of several dozen Pirates was sent off to the Marine Base for incarceration.
"Are you Dunn?"
As Dunn was watching the Marines escort his "money bags," Bogard spoke up from beside him.
"Yeah!"
Dunn nodded.
"I am Vice Admiral Garp's adjutant, Bogard. I have seen you before, in Shimotsuki Village."
Bogard introduced himself.
"Oh!"
Dunn nodded, not even turning his head.
This attitude made Bogard's lips twitch.
"Vice Admiral Garp came all the way from Headquarters this time because of you."
"Me again? But I have no interest in joining the Marines."
Dunn shook his head immediately.
"Why? Isn't capturing Pirates a way of upholding justice? Is there anything more righteous than the Marines?"
Bogard asked with a frown.
"Justice?"
Dunn was taken aback and turned his head to look at Bogard.
He originally wanted to retort a few words about the Marines' so-called justice, but after a moment's thought, he gave up.
Some Marines were just impossible to reason with.
"I capture Pirates for the money!"
Dunn thought for a moment and gave his answer.
"The Marine salary is not low."
Upon hearing this, Bogard spoke up immediately.
"Not low? Then how much is your salary?"
Dunn chuckled at the question.
"Four million Beli a month!"
Bogard did not hide anything upon hearing this and answered the question honestly.
"Four million Beli, and that's for a Marine Headquarters Colonel. A general officer would at most be double that, maybe an Admiral would be higher, plus there are benefits and such."
Dunn said in a relaxed tone.
Bogard nodded.
"So, do you know how much this ship full of weakling Pirates is worth?"
Weakling?
Bogard had never heard this word before, but he could roughly understand the meaning.
"I don't know!"
"Eighty million to one hundred million Beli."
Dunn gave the answer, and then Bogard fell silent.
That was two years of his salary.
Moreover, with his eye for talent, these Pirates were very weak; he could easily defeat them without even having to draw his sword.
"How long did it take you to capture them?"
Bogard swallowed hard and asked.
"About half a month or so. Of course, you can count it as a month."
Dunn waved his hand and said.
A month, huh?
Bogard admitted that he was tempted.
