Background / History
Before enrolling, Kikyo became overwhelmed by the secrets entrusted to her by friends. Unable to share those burdens herself, she began leaking them and found a cruel, temporary satisfaction in watching others suffer; the aftermath left her empty and self-loathing. She entered the school intending to remake herself into a perfect, universally loved version of Kushida Kikyo. 120
On the bus to school, she publicly asked Koenji Rokusuke to surrender his priority seat to an elderly passenger. Her careful choice of target, sympathetic presentation, and use of social pressure caused Akiyama Shin to question whether the act was also meant to accrue attention and social capital. 1
Kikyo immediately sought to make friends across Class D, using a shy and warm presentation that was especially effective with boys. Akiyama's indifferent response frustrated her because it denied her the validation she expected from her cultivated image. 3
Her façade fractured in private after Akiyama ignored her messages, revealing intense anger, jealousy, and paranoia regarding Horikita Suzune. Akiyama later overheard her cursing him and Horikita by the artificial lake, forcing Kikyo into a confrontation over the life she had built around her image. 10 12
Under Akiyama's coercive pressure, Kikyo admitted that she had exposed damaging information about several middle-school classmates, including Saionji, Sato Mika, and Kobayashi Kenta. The forced confessions and apologies broke through her initial hostility, leaving her ashamed, remorseful, and increasingly dependent on Akiyama's approval. 13 19

In private, she is volatile when rejected or threatened. Jealousy, possessiveness, resentment, and fear of exposure often drive her harshest reactions, particularly where Akiyama or Horikita are concerned. 10 17 55 92
After confronting her past, Kikyo becomes more capable of genuine reflection. Her hostility toward Horikita gradually fades, and she begins encouraging others rather than merely performing the role of a comforting classmate. 24 118 120
