Background / History
Suzune enters Advanced Nurturing High School as a Class D student. On the bus to school, she becomes involved in a dispute with Bai Yu after he treats her act of giving an elderly passenger a seat as an agreement between them. Suzune considers his conduct a violation of her will and insists that she should be free to follow her own convictions without having others impose their values on her. 7 8
At the school gate, she attempts to enlist Ayanokoji Kiyotaka as a witness against Bai Yu. Ayanokoji ultimately sides with Bai, leaving Suzune frustrated and convinced that arguing with them is futile. 9
During Class D's introductions, Suzune states that she consistently placed first academically at her former middle school and regularly ranked near the top in athletics. Her formal, goal-focused self-introduction receives only a muted response from the class. 11
Suzune initially regards Class D as beneath her standards. She is disturbed by classmates who sleep, talk, read manga, or otherwise disregard lessons, and considers either a future class reassignment or applying for one herself. 18 20
Bai repeatedly attempts to recruit her into the Service Club. Suzune first rejects the offer outright, but later accepts a transaction: if Bai proves himself by joining the School Cheerleading Squad, she will serve under him in the club. After learning that he has apparently succeeded, she postpones submitting her application rather than openly rejecting the obligation. 18 28 35 50
Appearance
Suzune is a long-haired, black-haired girl with a composed and severe presence. Her expression and gaze are frequently described as cold, sharp, or intimidating. 18 19
- Usually carries and reads books, including during her commute and in class. 8 18
- Maintains a straight, upright posture. 11
- Her athletic exertion during the tennis match leaves her bangs and neck damp with sweat. 23 25
Personality
Suzune is highly independent, disciplined, and guided by firm personal convictions. She strongly resents others deciding matters for her or using social pressure to direct her behavior, even when the intended outcome is charitable. 8
She is aloof toward classmates and uncomfortable with unwanted familiarity. She rebuffs Kushida Kikyo's repeated efforts to become friends, questions why Kushida is so focused on her, and prefers to be left alone rather than socialize out of obligation. 17 19 20
Her pride makes her intensely competitive. Bai's provocations during their tennis match push her to pursue victory so fiercely that she begins to lose sight of sportsmanship; however, she later deliberately yields the final point, demonstrating growth and respect for fair play. 23 27
Despite her cold exterior, Suzune can show empathy and initiative. She agrees to accompany Ayanokoji to a café out of pity for his isolation, offers to help Ichinose Honami reject a friend's confession without causing unnecessary harm, and later comforts Ayanokoji after his role in the staged confession affects him emotionally. 18 34 50
