"Have you eaten your fill?" Seeing the girl set down her spoon, Jiang Han looked at her gently and asked.
The girl gave a slight nod, obedient and well-behaved.
Jiang Han noticed the hand with which she had set down the spoon. There were no calluses on her palm, nor any sores or scars, while the back of her hand was smooth. If one overlooked the girl's bedraggled attire, one could see that her skin was fair and that she possessed an innate air of distinction.
Had she gotten lost? Or did she have nowhere to call home? Jiang Han set down her notebook, took a sip of coffee, and asked with a smile:
"What kind of help do you need? If you accidentally lost your ID, I can take you to the witches' police station to report it missing. If you've lost your place to stay, I can take you to an ordinary people's welfare home. The accommodations aren't great, but at least they have double rooms, and you'll be able to meet girls your own age."
As she spoke, she used a kind smile to ease the other girl's unease.
"I understand you. Without magic power, it's easy to get lost on Sky Island. This place often gives off mist with mildly hallucinogenic effects, and it's very difficult for ordinary humans to survive here."
The girl raised her head, gently biting her lip and drawing in a faint breath through her nose. Her eyes reddened, and a glimmer of moisture shone in her gray-black eyes.
"I..."
She drew another breath, gathered her courage, and said:
"I'm not an ordinary person. I'm a... witch."
"...A witch?" Jiang Han frowned. She found it a little hard to believe; judging by the girl's destitute appearance, she did not seem like one.
