"Not worth it..." Veronica shook her head. "It really isn't worth it. You simply don't know..."
"Veronica, I know you've endured a great deal of pain and hardship." Chen Rui stepped before Veronica and took her hand. "Back then, 'little Arthur' had no power to free you from suffering. But now, I do!"
"No!" Veronica lowered her head, her hand trembling even more fiercely. "You don't know! You know nothing!"
Chen Rui gave a soft sigh. "You're wrong. Actually, I do know."
"No..." Veronica clenched her fists, her knuckles turning white from the force. Then she suddenly raised her head as though making up her mind, violently wrenching free of his grasp as she shrieked, "Do you know who made you wander homelessly outside for seven years? Who made you lose most of your memories?"
Chen Rui gazed deeply into her eyes. "That was only an accident. No matter the reason, 'little Arthur' would never blame you."
Veronica's expression changed. "You... you really do know!"
"If the loss of memories is regarded as death, then 'he' is already dead. 'I' am merely someone whose memories were remolded—or someone who has lived again—possessing part of the original little Arthur's consciousness."
For the first time since his rebirth into this world, Chen Rui revealed the greatest "truth," though it was only a double entendre. He pointed to his own head. "But within this part of the memories, his greatest obsession has always remained. No matter what happened in the past, you have always been the one in little Arthur's heart. You may not like him, you may not love him, and you may even hurt him. But you cannot stop that heart of his from wanting you to be happy—even if all he can do is watch your happiness from afar."
