Today was the day the pilgrimage officially opened. Throngs of believers packed White Cliffs' teleportation square.
Gazing at the holy mountain soaring into the clouds in the distance, the believers all wore devout expressions. Some even advanced one step at a time, bowing in worship with every step.
Radiant Knights stood in orderly ranks along both sides of the square and passageway. Entering White Cliffs required a special Devout Faith Emblem. Ordinarily, only believers recommended by their local church, or whose donations and contributions had reached a certain level, could obtain such an emblem.
The emblem's purpose was not merely to pass through the magic gate. Its most important function was to reflect one's degree of devotion to the God of Light. An emblem without faith would be detected by special sensing devices, leaving spies attempting to infiltrate the holy mountain with nowhere to hide. Even enemies of overwhelming strength were no exception.
Among the crowd of believers, the Radiant Knights quickly noticed two unusual figures.
A man and a woman.
Nothing about their appearances or auras seemed remotely unusual. They looked like two ordinary people. Yet upon closer inspection, their features seemed somewhat blurred, always refusing to leave the clearest impression.
What truly struck the Radiant Knights as abnormal was that neither of them displayed any devout expression or gesture. They seemed utterly calm and detached, as though this sacred ground of the Church of Light were no different from any ordinary place frequented by common folk—and they made no effort to conceal that "ordinariness."
