Evening, Dark Moon Residence.
Chen Rui looked up at the Twin Moons as they began to turn violet, lost in thought.
At the cost of his life, Michael had revealed many secrets, lifting the mist that had always shrouded Chen Rui's heart—at least part of it.
Yet many questions remained. The greatest of them was this: the Abyss's will was the dark divinity born from the gods' curse by the Supreme God, equivalent to a part of the gods' lives and power. Thus, the gods had not dared eradicate it completely, instead choosing exile and sealing. But in the Second War of the Gods, the gods should have fallen beneath the Supreme God's power summoned by Lucifer. The will of the Abyss, bound to the gods' fate, should likewise have dissipated. Why did it still exist to this day?
"Sosbach and Dillosro have been annihilated, but the wills of fear and despair have not been destroyed." Ben Hong's words interrupted Chen Rui's thoughts.
"So long as suitable vessels can be found, new Fear Sovereigns and Despair Sovereigns will be born?" Chen Rui understood. "The Sovereigns are merely incarnations of will... or perhaps servants? The 'will' is the true Abyss? Then even if all three Sovereigns are defeated, it will be useless. Unless... the true will of the Abyss is destroyed?"
"Not 'destroyed.'" Ben Hong shook her head upon hearing his final words. "It can only be surpassed."
Chen Rui recalled Michael's final words: You must surpass him, surpass everything...
Surpass Lucifer, and then surpass something even higher?
"Enough. You don't need to explain the rest. I'll find the answers myself." Chen Rui stopped Ben Hong from continuing. "At this point, the answers no longer matter. What matters is the outcome. If we cannot change the outcome, then everything is futile."
