Background / History

Class D is recognized within Tokyo Advanced Nurturing High School as the lowest-ranked class, historically associated with poor performance, a gathering of defective products, and problem students 2 10. At the start of the school year, the class begins with zero class points—the lowest in history—due to poor performance and disciplinary issues 10. The class suffers from internal disorganization, tardiness, skipping classes, and friction between delinquent students like Sudo Ken and the rest of the student body 10 16.

The class dynamic is heavily shaped by its key members, including Horikita Suzune, who attempts to push the class toward rising to Class A; Hirata Yosuke, who acts as a unifying presence; and various problem students such as the "Three Idiots" (Ike, Yamauchi, and Sudo) 10 16 26. Class D becomes a primary target for external manipulation by students from other classes, notably Sakamoto Shunichi from Class A—who entraps Kushida Kikyo into a contract and uses test-answer distributions to influence them—and Ryuen Kakeru from Class C, who targets Class D's fragile unity and orchestrates framing incidents to exploit their vulnerabilities 19 26 31 33.
