Background / History

Sun Jiaoyang is Sun Zhenhai's son and Sun Ao's elder brother. During the Yellow Mountain Martial Arts Hall examination, he was presented as a highly anticipated new disciple and a disciple of Senior Brother Chen Lei; other competitors deferred to him before he even entered the arena. 38

He decisively defeated Jin Yongsheng with a single punch, leaving Jin with a caved-in chest and severe injuries. His conduct prompted concern from Hall Master Yuan Shan, who later judged that Sun Jiaoyang required strict management. 38

In the semifinal, Sun Jiaoyang crippled Sun Ao after dismissing the latter's use of the family Blood Injury Fist as stagnant and “boring.” The attack shattered Sun Ao's meridians and bones during what was meant to be a sparring match, drawing outrage from the disciples and a direct rebuke from Yuan Shan. 41

He then faced Li He in the final. Sun Jiaoyang initially dominated through superior movement, precision strikes, and Cloud Rolling Cloud Relaxing, but Li He endured the assault and defeated him with the Ape Demon Three Styles. 42

Sun Jiaoyang is proud, competitive, and openly contemptuous of opponents he considers weak. He dismissed Sun Ao's long-practiced family technique, called a terrified fellow disciple “trash,” and treated Yuan Lingling's formal challenge with silence. 39 41

His earlier conduct was notably ruthless. He severely injured Jin Yongsheng and permanently crippled his own brother during examination matches, showing little regard for martial virtue or fellowship. 38 41

However, he adheres to his own concept of fairness. When Li He was weakened in the Abyss, Sun Jiaoyang refused to exploit the situation, drove away attacking parasites, and demanded a future arena duel instead. 116 He also condemned Zhou Tianci for preying on the vulnerable and defended Li He's right to face Zhou first. 118 123
