Background / History

Ike is one of Class 1-D's academically struggling students, alongside Sudo Ken and Yamauchi Haruki. Before the midterms, he spends his newly received personal points on entertainment goods and is later seen short on living expenses with Yamauchi. Despite Hirata Yosuke's study sessions, Ike remains among the students most at risk of failing the exams. 4 12 15

He studies the leaked exam answers through the night before the midterm. During the test, repeated calls from an anonymous number distract him; he takes out his phone to silence it and is recorded by surveillance cameras. The school rules this cheating and announces his immediate expulsion. 28 29

After leaving the classroom in despair, Ike accepts Ayanokoji Kiyotaka's offer to intervene in exchange for more than 20,000 personal points per month. Ayanokoji secures a school review by arranging a 500,000-point payment for time, and Ike's expulsion is reduced to a three-month probation. Ike believes Ayanokoji may have used powerful connections for him and begins privately thinking of him as “Brother Ayanokoji.” 30 32

During the cruise-ship trip, Ike declares his feelings to Kushida Kikyo but is rejected. On the uninhabited-island special exam, he identifies a stream and nearby base, arguing that the class can use the water and catch fish to conserve points.
