Kraft saw Green off as he reluctantly left his work behind, sincerely hoping Heavenly Father would bless him with a recovery—or that the Deep Layer creatures would let him go because they didn't want to work remotely.

The process for getting temporary leave approved was short, and there wasn't much to pack. About half a day later, the two of them had bundled up the Priest and his luggage, loaded them into a carriage, and sent them to the outskirts beyond the city.

A pleasant environment, far from crowds, was ideal for getting one's mental state back in order.

Kraft watched the carriage disappear at the far end of the square. After reminding Brother Wadin to keep in touch, he took a carriage back to the clinic.

Green's request had genuinely struck a chord with him. It should have been the most basic of needs.

The reason might have been the existence of Spiritual Senses, which meant Kraft rarely thought, I need to build an instrument specifically to assess this.

It was like how people with normal hearing could hardly imagine trying to describe sound to the deaf. Nor could the latter understand how vibrations too faint to be detected by even the most sensitive skin could travel across great distances, be received, and be interpreted as a wealth of different information.

There needed to be something that would let people without special senses "see" the influences at that level.

In Kraft's view, he still had to start with Black Salt, the only thing known to react to it.

From another angle, this seemed to mean Green had agreed to research products from the Deep Layer. Kraft could now work on the samples openly, without worrying about how to explain himself if Inquisition visitors suddenly showed up one day.
