Background / History

The Sun Moon Empire is a technologically advanced western power whose territory was initially confined west of the Mingdou Mountain Range. Its rulers regarded its superior Soul Tool technology as an unrealized advantage while the Star Luo, Heavenly Soul, and Dou Ling Empires remained powerful rivals. 272 351

Ming Capital suffered a catastrophic disaster when an underground arsenal detonated. Sixteen Level 9 Fixed Soul Guidance Shells and more than ten thousand lower-level shells exploded in a chain reaction, destroying the ancient capital and inflicting enormous civilian losses. The destruction also erased strategic stores of rare metals, completed Soul Guidance Devices, and supplies intended to equip a super-army. 367 369

After succeeding to the throne, Xu Tianran rebuilt Ming Capital, settled disaster victims, and publicly maintained restraint while preparing for war. The government used public grief and anger over the catastrophe to accelerate military recruitment, Soul Tool development, and an arms race against the other empires. 374 415

Under Xu Tianran and Ju Zi, the empire launched campaigns supported by the Holy Spirit Cult.
