Theus took several deep breaths, trying hard to calm himself.
He had originally been developing things at an unhurried pace, but now it seemed he had to speed up.
Research into artillery, for instance, might have to be shelved for now. He needed methods that could produce results faster.
They could use explosive packs directly—simple and straightforward. The Banshees were astonishingly strong and could easily hurl explosive packs several hundred meters, no weaker than mortars. Even if he developed artillery, it would be difficult for it to surpass the Banshees' explosive-pack throwing in the short term.
But... this brought them back to the theory that Transcendents determined everything. What was powerful was not the explosive pack, but the Banshee capable of throwing it. At a glance, there seemed to be little difference, but given a little more time, the gap between the two would be worlds apart.
Turning one cannon into ten thousand only required building a few more factories. Turning one hundred Banshees into one hundred and one, however, was immensely difficult.
Unfortunately, there was no longer time for slow development.
The airship soon descended again. Chloe and Nini stepped out of the cockpit, neither of them looking particularly well.
Both of them understood all too clearly what rising seawater meant.
Theus went straight to Chloe. "Chloe, we need to shift the direction of our research."
The orange-red-haired girl let out a sigh. She understood what Theus meant. As she spent more time with him, she had gradually discovered the contradiction between the technology in his hands and this world.
Theus seemed to be trying to build a technological tree entirely free of Transcendents. Chloe did not quite understand why he wanted to do that, but she found it interesting. It suited her tastes, and she did not mind
