Old Ivan had been worrying again lately.
Yesterday, the steward had once more sent people door to door to notify everyone.
It was about the school again. Apparently, several new classes called advanced courses were going to be offered.
There were quite a few names, and he hadn't remembered them all. The only thing he remembered was that these classes could only be taken during the day.
The nighttime school only offered literacy and general studies. Anyone who wanted to advance had to come to school during the day as well.
There was no need to think about it. Gaia definitely wanted to take those classes. She had done remarkably well in literacy, and Miss Zoe had even praised her for learning quickly.

And he had a son, Ken.
Though Ken hadn't said anything, Old Ivan knew he was actually quite interested in those classes. Gaia was simply more obsessed with them, so he pretended not to care as much.
Gaia was one thing, but if Ken attended advanced courses too...
Old Ivan sighed again. He could still work at the factory. He was currently employed at an olive oil factory, and occasionally he could pick up work harvesting olives—work that came with extra pay. Plenty of people were after it, so it was hard to get.
Even so, on a lucky day he could earn three
