Wherever he looked, a string of charred marks flashed across the carriage's interior panels. He quickly realized this and shifted his gaze past the window toward the distant storm.
"Stop here!" He pointed ahead, and lightning followed his will. Outside the carriage, a bolt as thick as a bucket suddenly crashed down from the sky. Like a hot knife cutting through butter, it plunged straight into the hurricane, and the tundra beneath the dark clouds lit up as bright as day.
The storm froze for an instant.
The howling tornado seemed to have stumbled. The black mass that had stretched from earth to sky jolted violently, nearly being split apart by the strike.
