Tang San was swept from his small boat in a storm and rescued by Xiao Bai, a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast, near Sea God Island. After recovering and telling a woman his story, he was led to a strange pool and a carved pillar, where he saw an unfamiliar sea soul beast sculpture.

Tang San crossed the turbulent Sea within a Sea and reached the Seahorse Sacred Pillar to begin Sea God Island's trial. As he gave his name to Seahorse Douluo, Sea God watched him from the God Realm.
