The voices were loud and clamorous. Although this was a semi-civilian military base, it still could not stop the media who had come in pursuit of news.
Tony Stark, a top-tier billionaire, had been missing in the desert for a month and a half. His sudden reappearance was, by any measure, excellent news material. In this internet age where information spreads with incredible speed, their arrival at this base was, of course, not a problem at all.
For the sake of getting the first-hand scoop, the media squeezed frantically outside the cordon, just to get a closer look at this playboy. Flashing cameras went wild, murdering countless rolls of film.
Fang Bie and Yinsen also got off the plane with Tony from the cargo hatch at the rear. Compared to the narrow boarding ramp next to them, this area could accommodate more people exiting at once.
Tony had long since changed out of the leather jacket he had worn for who knows how long—which was even starting to rot and stink—and put on his flashy suit jacket, walking off the plane with high spirits.
Colonel Rhodey followed by his side, with Fang Bie close behind. Under the watchful eyes of the surrounding soldiers, they slowly walked off the plane, bypassed the large crowd of media, and found the private car parked there.
Although Fang Bie had some understanding of this situation and didn't particularly care about it, the impression this noticeably large, fat man left on him was far too deep.
Even under these circumstances, this fat man still looked at them all with a beaming smile, opening the car door and striking a pose to welcome his boss, as if this were just a normal outing rather than a return from a brush with death.
If everyone didn't already know that this was just his personality, and if Fang Bie didn't know that this driver was loyal to a fault, he would never have been able to associate him with the bodyguard and driver of such an important figure.
In front of the car, a beautiful woman was standing there. She must be Tony Stark's confidante, his future wife, Pepper.
Tony still wore a devil-may-care expression, looking at his secretary with a hint of playfulness, though the look on his face was slightly tense. "What's wrong? Your eyes are red. Sad for your missing boss?"
Pepper's eyes were red as she said, "I'm happy. Happy that I don't have to look for a new job."
Tony looked at her face with some surprise and nodded. "Right, it's time to get back to work!"
Yinsen and Fang Bie whispered to each other behind him. "They say Tony is a playboy. Looking at this, it feels like he's already fallen for her?"
Fang Bie looked at the bald man beside him in astonishment. This medical doctor from Denmark seemed to have a deep understanding of romance; otherwise, he wouldn't have suddenly made such a poignant remark.
"Your guess is spot on. God, that's exactly what I was thinking!" Fang Bie also whispered back to him.
However, just as the two thought their voices wouldn't attract the attention of the two in front, Tony suddenly turned his head.
"Hey! Yinsen, Fang Bie, stop talking behind my back. Get in the car first, we're heading home!"
The two shrugged in unison, exchanged a glance, and followed him into the car.
As for those resourceful media members who had even chased them to the military base, they couldn't even get a glimpse of the playboy. Instead, they were left far behind as the sturdy, imposing stretched Rolls-Royce slowly drove out of the airport.
"Happy, drive. We're going to get a cheeseburger first..." Tony first instructed the driver before turning to face the two in the car.
Pepper was not in the same car with them at this moment, but was sitting in a security vehicle behind them, which showed from another angle how much Tony valued the two of them.
"I think you'll both love this kind of burger. I've always loved eating it!"
"No, no, Tony, I think that's just your personal preference. I hate the taste of cheese!" Yinsen seemed to loathe the flavor and quickly refused.
"Same here. I don't think I'm used to cheese either. If you could give me a KFC burger, I'd be very grateful," Fang Bie said as well.
"Oh, you're missing out on a delicacy, but that's not a problem." Tony snapped his fingers, and another voice suddenly appeared in the car.
"Sir, welcome back. Is there anything I can help you with?" The voice was crisp but carried a hint of mechanical static. Needless to say, this must be the most frequent supporting character in the Iron Man series, the robotic butler Jarvis.
"Oh!" Tony responded, pointing to the two beside him. "My friends want a lunch that suits their respective tastes. Go arrange it for them."
"Very well, sir." Jarvis quickly withdrew from the space, leaving behind Tony's smiling face. He seemed to feel that showing off such a robotic butler in front of them was something worth boasting about.
"This way, we can eat lunch while holding the press conference I want with those annoying reporters," Tony said with a smile. "Fang Bie, Yinsen, you two stay in the car. Once I finish the press conference, I'll arrange rooms for you!"
"OK, OK!" As a true loner, Fang Bie naturally had no objections, and Yinsen felt the same.
One could even say that in this vast country, the two of them only knew Tony, and since they weren't worried about him framing them, they accepted it with peace of mind.
Fang Bie felt everything was particularly fresh, with a sense of dislocation as if the world in the movies had suddenly become reality. Only the cube he held tightly in his hand could bring him a bit of security; possessing such power gave him the capital to roam this world.
The car soon arrived at a press conference venue crowded with media; their speed in getting information was nothing short of fast.
Just as Tony and Fang Bie were gnawing on the burgers in their hands, and Dr. Yinsen behind them was tucking in, the venue was already surrounded by all kinds of news workers.
Fang Bie quietly placed something into Tony's hand. It was a small, golden apple, and he whispered to him.
"You must be careful. Everyone around you could be the one who sent you into the desert. This Golden Apple can protect you from life-threatening danger. You can eat it when necessary."
Of course, Fang Bie couldn't directly tip him off by saying his uncle was the mastermind behind it all. Even if Tony trusted him, he would likely be half-skeptical upon hearing such a thing.
So, Fang Bie quietly pointed out the issue at this moment. After saying this, he didn't talk more, returned to his seat to eat his burger, and watched as Tony and Pepper walked into the venue.
His sharp eyes noticed a man in a suit with a worrying hairline following closely behind the two with a smile as they walked in.
"It's him?" Fang Bie suddenly realized. He really didn't have this detail in his memory.
