Fang Bie gripped the arrow on his back with some hesitation. He could feel the arrow embedded in his flesh and the pain it caused, but it wasn't excruciating.
He hurriedly ate an Apple that had dropped while he was chopping trees on the road. His hunger bar on the right returned to full, and the row of red hearts on his left began to slowly flicker and replenish.
"Hiss!" He drew a sharp breath and pulled the arrow out from his back. Although the pain was intense, it was still within his tolerance.
Fang Bie touched his back. Despite the spot having just been pierced by an arrow, there were no severe marks left. As he touched it, the wound was actually shrinking rapidly, disappearing entirely in moments.
A smile finally crossed Fang Bie's face. This wasn't the excitement he had felt before; this was a genuine, heartfelt smile.
If the previous realization had only made him feel that this world wouldn't be as dull as the original game, he could now basically confirm that his body was no longer the one he had before.
To use a famous internet catchphrase, it would be: "I'm done being human!"
Theoretically, he had become the body of Steve. While it couldn't be called immortal or indestructible, having a body digitized like a game was enough for him to look down on everyone else.
When he was attacked, he wouldn't feel fatal pain or sustain fatal wounds regardless of where he was hit. This meant that as long as it wasn't a one-hit kill, he wouldn't actually die.
Furthermore, he possessed another terrifying aspect of this game world: the Hunger Regeneration trait.
Because of the Food Mod, he had specifically calculated the hunger points restored by each item he ate. He discovered that the terrifying side effect that usually accompanied the Food Mod—where eating the same type of food provided less hunger—did not manifest for him.
"It seems this world is still quite friendly to me, at least it didn't add those negative mods." Fang Bie sighed. He had already surrounded himself with blocks; otherwise, he wouldn't have had the peace of mind to think about these things while under attack.
However, the sound of arrows constantly thudding into the wood outside reminded him that he hadn't actually escaped danger. He just didn't know why the guy shooting arrows hadn't come to him.
Fang Bie carefully poked his head out from the side, then quickly pulled it back. A brown Feather Arrow whizzed past his head. But in that brief glance, he had already seen the true face of his attacker.
Not far from where he was, under the shade of a tree, stood a white Skeleton shivering all over. It held a crude-looking bow and had no visible quiver, yet it fired arrows at him without pause.
Fang Bie poked his head out again, but this time he wasn't as lucky. A Feather Arrow struck his head at an awkward angle, and his health dropped by nearly 13 points again.
But Fang Bie wasn't without gains this time. He had seen the position where the Skeleton Archer was standing: it was in the shade, which shielded the skeleton from the scorching sunlight.
Fang Bie didn't have any armor, and he wasn't foolish enough to face the enemy head-on. He ate a piece of Sugar Cane to restore his hunger, and after his health slowly climbed back up, he took out a Shovel and began digging into the dirt.
Halfway through, he realized something was wrong. He touched his head and found that the arrow that had just struck his forehead was still stuck there, not having been pulled out.
He endured the pain once more and pulled the arrow from his head. It had been embedded in a very bizarre way, with the arrowhead even piercing through his cheek, yet it still hadn't caused him excessive pain.
Only then did Fang Bie truly set his mind at ease. The Skeleton Archer on the other side seemed to have no intelligence; after he dug four blocks deep into the ground, the sound of arrows above ceased.
Fang Bie recalled the position where the Skeleton Archer had been standing, then dug out a space underground just large enough for him to stand in.
In the game of MC, all solid blocks could exist independently in mid-air without following any laws of Newton, so he didn't have to worry about the dirt above collapsing.
He took out all the wood he had mined earlier, crafted it into several Shovels, and began digging from four blocks underground toward the location of the skeleton.
With the Shovel, his digging speed was much faster than before. Two or three stacks of dirt appeared in his Backpack, and at this moment, he heard the sound of clattering bones coming from above the dirt.
Fang Bie dug three blocks upward and listened again. He found the sound wasn't directly above him, so he continued digging to the side until he widened the space, finally locating the skeleton's true position.
He took some dirt in his hand and leveled the space beneath his feet, leaving a two-meter-high gap. Then, he found the spot where the skeleton was currently standing and placed a block of dirt there.
In MC, medium-sized creatures were generally two blocks tall. If the skeleton fell from the hole above, it would get stuck at the opening, and the block of dirt beneath its feet would ensure it didn't fall directly into his space.
Fang Bie swung the Shovel in his hand. The skeleton seemed to sense the presence of a human nearby, its movements becoming more violent and restless.
Fang Bie held the Shovel in one hand and kept a block of dirt ready in the other; if things went south, he would immediately seal this space and run away.
Fortunately, things went exactly as he expected. The skeleton fell down from above and landed on the block of dirt.
It was as if someone had fallen through the ceiling and landed on a high table—with its feet on the table but its head still stuck in the ceiling—the skeleton was momentarily caught in a dilemma.
Fang Bie could only see its feet, which were identical to human bones, and he could hear the crisp sound of clattering bone.
He didn't hesitate to pull the Wooden Sword from his Backpack and struck several times. Although the Wooden Sword didn't have high attack power, he easily finished off the skeleton while it had no way to fight back.
After the skeleton died, its skeleton frame immediately flashed into fragments in the air, while one bone and two arrows fell to the ground.
Fang Bie looked at his side; the two arrows he had pulled from his own body had already vanished. It seemed this was the rule of this world.
