Arc 21Root’s Fall

Akaseki’s squad fought Iwagakure while secretly pursuing evidence of Root’s child experiments. After Akaseki and his allies rescued the children and exposed Root’s crimes, Konoha’s clans moved against Shimura Danzō, leaving him surrounded and determined to protect Hiruzen.

  • Akaseki’s squad attacked Rockhold Fortress, where Akaseki used the Amanuma War Fan to counter Ōnoki’s Dust Release and Minato, Orochimaru, and Tsunade helped force the Tsuchikage to withdraw.
  • After regrouping and fighting at Shattered Sand Camp, Akaseki and Jiraiya searched for a child to lure Root into action and found a starving, nameless boy with a Sunagakure Memory Seal.
  • Root agents abducted the boy, and Akaseki’s squad tracked them to a secret base near the Land of Iron with help from Shikaku, Inoichi, and Choza.
  • Inoichi discovered Root’s experiments on children, so Akaseki and the others stormed the base, rescued more than twenty children and over ten babies, and seized the experimental records.
  • Akaseki revealed that Root had massacred a village to seize children, prompting Konoha’s clans and the Uchiha to coordinate action against Shimura Danzō.
  • Forest Street and the Uchiha attacked Root headquarters while other clans moved against the Shimura Clan compound, and Shimura Danzō refused to flee, deciding he had to protect Hiruzen.

Arc 22Root's Reckoning and the Nine-Tails

Akaseki helped expose Root’s crimes, pursued a Jashin Cult network tied to Dan Katō, and supported Konoha’s postwar reforms. After the village made peace and promoted its wartime heroes, Akaseki tested Kushina’s ability to draw on the Nine-Tails’ power, revealing that her six-tailed cloak was still unsafe.

  • Hiruzen Sarutobi confronted Danzo over Root’s illegal experiments as Konoha’s clans and commoner ninja demanded accountability, leading to an Elders’ Council to oversee secret departments.
  • Akaseki investigated disappearances near Tanzaku Town and uncovered a Jashin Cult gathering directed by Dan Katō, then traded Dan’s release for six captured Konoha ninja.
  • Konoha elected Canglan, Nara Luzang, Hyuga Jisuke, and Fujirō Namiashi as Elders, while the council transferred Root’s missions and left Danzo’s fate unresolved.
  • Konoha signed a ceasefire with Iwagakure, and Akaseki advised Jiancheng to expand the Uchiha-led police force and recruit beyond the clan.
  • Hiruzen Sarutobi approved Akaseki’s proposal to help Kushina control the Nine-Tails and announced postwar compensation, promotions, and Akashi Uchiha’s elevation to elite jonin.
  • Akaseki entered Kushina’s consciousness and challenged the Nine-Tails, prompting Kushina to draw on its chakra without breaking the seal.
  • Kushina fought Akaseki in progressively stronger Tailed Beast Cloaks, but when she reached six tails, she used eight golden chains to restrain the Nine-Tails and force it back.
