Background and History
Tang San grew up in Holy Soul Village as the son of the withdrawn blacksmith Tang Hao. After awakening Blue Silver Grass with Innate Full Soul Power, he becomes determined to enter Notting Junior Soul Master Academy and learn about soul power, martial souls, and the wider world. Tang Hao ultimately permits him to go after Old Jack argues that his talent should not be wasted. Martial Soul Hall subsidizes part of his academy expenses. 39 40
Although Blue Silver Grass is publicly regarded as weak, Meow Meow identifies Tang San as an unusual case: Tang Hao's son, with Blue Silver Emperor bloodline, the Mysterious Heaven Skill, hidden weapons, and exceptional future potential. Martial Soul Hall therefore monitors him without confronting him directly, believing that rash action could alert Tang Hao. 23 24
At Notting Academy, Tang San receives Martial Soul Hall textbooks on martial-soul identification, meditation, and safe soul hunting. He reads them before relying on Grandmaster Yu Xiaogang's guidance, shares them with the other work-study students, and develops a habit of testing theories against his own judgment rather than accepting any source blindly. 40 41 47
He initially declines Yu Xiaogang's offer of formal apprenticeship, explaining that he must first understand both the academy and Yu Xiaogang himself. He later accepts Yu Xiaogang as a teacher in practice, but continues comparing his teachings with Martial Soul Hall materials and his own experience. 41 47
Tang San obtains his first soul ring from a Datura Serpent after registering his intended target, alternatives, and a safe age range with the Notting City Martial Soul Hall. The hunt confirms the control potential of his Blue Silver Grass and gives him the Entanglement soul skill. 44 45
Over six years, he becomes Notting Academy's best-known work-study student. Upon graduating, he and Xiao Wu travel to Suotuo City to assess Shrek Academy rather than enrolling solely on Yu Xiaogang's recommendation. 47 48
Personality
Tang San is notably cautious, analytical, and self-directed. He studies foundational theory, cross-references competing claims, and refuses to place important cultivation choices entirely in another person's hands. This caution shapes his refusal to immediately become Yu Xiaogang's disciple, his registered first soul hunt, and his investigation of Shrek Academy before committing to it. 41 44 47 48
He is also principled about power and rules. Tang San argues that rules allow the weak to be heard, supports Xiao Wu's objections to Shrek Academy's unclear registration practices, and insists that dangerous matters should be reported to stronger authorities rather than handled rashly by students. 48 49 58
Despite needing soul rings to cultivate, Tang San does not endorse needless killing. He promises Xiao Wu that he will not kill soul beasts for pleasure, will choose suitable targets carefully, and would consider a non-lethal alternative such as the Soul Pact if it proves viable. 41 42 44
Abilities & Skills
Blue Silver Grass Martial Soul
Tang San's Martial Soul is Blue Silver Grass, though its Innate Full Soul Power, unusually strong reaction to surrounding Blue Silver Grass, and latent Blue Silver Emperor bloodline indicate that it is not ordinary. 23 39 46
- Uses the Martial Soul as a control-oriented weapon, spreading grass across the battlefield to restrict movement and shape opponents' routes. 43 55
- Has strong sensitivity to spiritual and life-related reactions from nearby Blue Silver Grass. 46
- Its main early weakness is range: swift opponents can close in before the grass fully expands. Stronger opponents may also break free. 46
- Tang San learns from Xie Yue that a Control-type Soul Master's first priority is controlling distance, not merely restraining enemies. 43 51
First Soul Skill: Entanglement
After absorbing the Datura Serpent's soul ring, Tang San gains Entanglement, which produces tougher, poisonous Blue Silver Grass for binding targets. 45 46
- Restrains limbs and tightens as the target struggles. 46
- Inflicts mild numbness through the Datura Serpent's toxin. 46
- Can bind or redirect charging opponents rather than blocking them directly. 45 55
- Is effective against opponents of a similar rank, but less reliable against exceptional speed or overwhelming strength. 46
Mysterious Heaven Skill and Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track
Tang San possesses the Mysterious Heaven Skill and uses its circulation method to guide soul-ring power into his Martial Soul during absorption. 23 45
- Guides soul-ring attributes into Blue Silver Grass rather than relying only on brute-force suppression. 45
- Uses the Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track to evade the Datura Serpent's initial lunge. 45
Hidden Weapons
Tang San carries concealed weapons, including a short blade hidden in his sleeve. 23 45
- Uses the short blade to strike the Datura Serpent's vital point after Grandmaster creates an opening. 45
- Initially reaches for a hidden weapon when encountering a low-level soul beast, but does not attack when it shows no hostility. 45
Spiritual Perception
Tang San is sensitive to spiritual fluctuations despite his Purple Demon Eye not yet being complete. 43
- Recognizes Hu Liena as a mental-type Soul Master from her aura. 43
- Questions her about the ethical limits of mental influence and Charm. 43
Equipment / Items

- Rescue Whistle — Given by a Martial Soul Hall patrol for use if he encounters danger beyond his capability in the Soul Hunting Forest. 45
- Hidden short blade — Concealed in his sleeve and used during the Datura Serpent hunt. 45
Relationships
- Tang Hao — Father; a guarded and seemingly indifferent blacksmith who nevertheless allows Tang San to attend Notting Academy. 39 40
- Old Jack — Village elder who advocates fiercely for Tang San's education and escorts him to Notting Academy. 39 40
- Yu Xiaogang / Grandmaster — Teacher and cultivation adviser; Tang San initially declines formal apprenticeship, then learns from him while independently evaluating his theories. 41 44 47
- Xiao Wu — Closest friend and combat partner; she worries about his soul hunting, while he reassures her that he will not kill soul beasts indiscriminately. 41 44 55
- Hu Liena — Visiting teacher from Martial Soul Hall; Tang San consults her about the responsible use of mental-type abilities. 43
- Xie Yue — Visiting combat instructor whose lesson on controlling distance significantly influences Tang San's fighting style. 43 51 55
