Bai Zuo wasn't surprised.
Ever since he'd unfurled his Ghost Domain, no other Ghost Domain had appeared to oppose him. Within his domain, he had absolute control over everyone and everything.
He could control anyone he wanted.
Those who were still conscious and able to control their bodies were simply people he hadn't chosen to control.
A web appeared out of thin air in front of him. It looked like a thin layer of white silk, yet it was enough to stop the bullet flying toward him.
The bullet stuck to the web, suspended a meter away from Bai Zuo.
Bai Zuo hadn't used his web to stop Ji Wu's bullet because Ji Wu's bullets had been specially modified to destroy webs.
Ordinary bullets, on the other hand, couldn't threaten him in the slightest.
He didn't even spare them a glance.
Kong Yubo slammed his fist against the wall. That helpless feeling had returned.
Once every ordinary person in the Ghost Domain was controlled by the spider silk, the surroundings fell utterly silent.
Everyone stood motionless, like expressionless puppets with empty souls.
A horrifying ghost play was unfolding before them.
"Bai Zuo!"
Ji Wu finally pushed his way out of the crowd, which had come to a standstill. "What the hell is going on?"
Xu Zhou emerged too, drenched in sweat. He always felt exhausted after using his uncanny ability.
That was because his compatibility with the uncanny being was still low, and he wasn't very skilled at controlling it. Once their compatibility improved, controlling it would become much easier.
"Brother Bai!"
But the man on the platform didn't even glance at them.
In an excellent mood, Bai Zuo tilted his head back to look at the sky. The enormous spider spun silk with tireless dedication, weaving a web. Fluffy, cotton-like threads gradually filled the Ghost Domain he'd unfurled.
As if he'd sensed something, Xu Zhou also looked up.
In the sky, Bai Zuo's Ghost Domain seemed to have collided with something.
The space where the two met rippled continuously, tearing apart and then mending itself.
But two different Ghost Domains couldn't peacefully coexist in the same space. They would keep devouring each other, neither willing to yield, until one covered the other.
As Xu Zhou watched, he sensed a familiar presence emanating from the other Ghost Domain. It quickly came back to him.
"That's that Ghost Domain!"
Right. The other Ghost Domain had taken on the appearance of Anyang Island, which meant it was hovering above the island.
It had been hiding there all along, eyeing everyone on Anyang Island. No one knew when it would reveal its true form and swallow the entire island's population into its Ghost Domain.
This event was the perfect opportunity for it to unfurl its Ghost Domain. If the Holy Prince had been someone other than Bai Zuo, or if Bai Zuo hadn't decisively unfurled his Ghost Domain at that moment—
Once the event got underway, the person playing the Holy Prince would be the first to be swallowed by the other Ghost Domain. Then it would take everyone participating in the Lamp Mansion Festival, along with the people watching.
By unfurling his Ghost Domain first, Bai Zuo had marked everyone as his prey. In doing so, he'd protected them all from the other Ghost Domain.
Well, when it came to this sort of thing, first come, first served.
If Bai Zuo hadn't seen through the other side's scheme in time and let it devour everyone on Anyang Island, it would have been a lot harder to snatch them back from its Ghost Domain.
Even though Bai Zuo's Ghost Domain was far stronger than the other one, forcibly taking them back would still be difficult.
It wasn't that Bai Zuo was weak.
It was that the people being fought over were too weak. They couldn't withstand two powerful uncanny beings struggling over them. More likely, their fragile bodies would break into pieces like tofu in the process.
Ji Wu paused. Once he understood what was happening, his face filled with anger and anxiety. That little brat!
Even if you were trying to deal with the other Ghost Domain, you should've told him first!
He'd thought Bai Zuo had betrayed them!
Remembering that he'd shot at Bai Zuo earlier, Ji Wu felt a twinge of guilt.
Bai Zuo might usually act like a monster, and his methods might be extreme, but this time, Ji Wu really had misunderstood him.
For once, Ji Wu felt guilty toward Bai Zuo.
Maybe next time, he should be a little more forgiving, even if Bai Zuo acted up again!
After all, Ji Wu had misunderstood him and shot him in the face.
Ji Wu and Xu Zhou hurried over to Bai Zuo.
The other Ghost Domain had begun to manifest.
Murky water surged in from every direction. Soon, every street was flooded, and the whole of Anyang Island was submerged.
Countless hideous faces rose from the water. They stared hungrily at the people, their mouths wide as they tried to drag them down.
We'll never be reincarnated. You should come with us!
Come down! Come down!
The Yellow Spring is where you belong!
I hate this! Why are you still alive?!
These things were all the lowest-level uncanny beings. Out in the real world, people couldn't even see them, and they couldn't attack anyone. They could only infect and inhabit humans when touched.
But now they were inside a Ghost Domain. Drawing on its power, they could be seen—and attack people.
Even the lowest-level uncanny beings, when gathered in the thousands, formed a force that couldn't be underestimated.
"These are all Wandering Souls! There are so many!"
Xu Zhou kicked away one of the uncanny beings that tried to bite him.
But there were far too many of them!
He couldn't even count them all at a glance.
He immediately unfastened the sword from his back and started hacking away by hand.
One slash, one kill!
One slash, one kill!
His arm was going numb!
Yet more uncanny beings surged toward him, trying to tear a piece of flesh from his body.
"Damn it!"
Ji Wu was in even worse shape.
He dodged their attacks while firing his gun, but he had only brought so many bullets. Even if he used them all, it wouldn't make a difference.
"You little punk! Quit watching and get moving!"
"Mm-hm~" Bai Zuo gave a soft hum and raised his hand. A white spider slowly descended from his finger, connected to it by a blood-red web and dangling in midair.
Darkness welled in Bai Zuo's eyes. He spoke softly to the spider. "Time to get moving. Tear them apart."
The spider's red compound eyes flashed.
The enormous spider in the sky let out a silent shriek. Countless strands of silk under its control began to tremble.
The people who'd been standing motionless had their eyes covered in red light.
Crack! Crack!
Their joints made a skin-crawling grinding sound as they suddenly sprang into motion. Controlled like stiff-limbed puppets, they charged forward with clumsy movements and grappled with the uncanny beings.
Xu Zhou looked around in confusion. The countless uncanny beings had been swallowed up by the crowd. People trampled them underfoot, and they could no longer surface.
His bewildered expression turned to admiration. "Amazing!"
