Just because they could see it was one thing; saying it out loud was another. They were still within Gulanxiu's domain, after all! Every move they made was under his watch.
If they said Gulanxiu was weaker than their lord, they might displease him and lose the slender hope of survival they had just gained.
But saying Gulanxiu was stronger than their lord wouldn't be right, either. They didn't know what kind of person he was. They feared he might blame them for being dishonest, yet worried that anything they said would be wrong. In the end, they could only give a vague answer.
The guards were relatively relaxed, but the Silver Giant Wolf looked much more solemn. In a flash, it placed itself in front of the many green giant wolves and said gravely to Gulanxiu, "Human! You're strong! But the Blood Spirit Grassland is one of the habitats the Immortal Temple assigned to us Wild Beasts. It's not a place your Human Race can casually enter! This is the territory of the great Golden Armor Dragon, Qila'angsi. If you know what's good for you, leave now, and I might let bygones be bygones!"
Gulanxiu's expression turned strange at the Silver Giant Wolf's words. He hadn't expected it to use Qila'angsi to threaten him. After all, Qila'angsi was currently lying inside his World Ring!
Of course, to avoid exposing himself, Gulanxiu couldn't let Qila'angsi out. He had only used the power of his domain, and his earlier attack hadn't contained even a trace of Law. After all, it was difficult for a native Secret Realm like the Bloodfall Continent to produce an overpowered Cosmic Level expert who had comprehended the Law.
Gulanxiu laughed heartily. "Hahaha! Silver Wolf! If you want to keep those people here, you'll have to ask whether the axe in my hand agrees!"
A fierce glint flashed in the Silver Giant Wolf's eyes. It said coldly, "Those people killed my kind and stole my spiritual herbs on the Blood Spirit Grassland. I'll never let them go. Human, if you don't leave now, you won't be leaving at all."
Gulanxiu sneered. "Why waste your breath? I'm protecting those people. If you don't like it, come fight!"
The Silver Giant Wolf roared, "Since you're asking for death, then die!"
Its body blurred, and in an instant, it appeared before Gulanxiu. Although the Silver Wolf had been at a disadvantage in their brief exchange earlier, it didn't believe its strength was inferior to Gulanxiu's. After their domains collided, it had judged that Gulanxiu's domain was at the same level as its own—the Fifth Layer—and that his cultivation was also at Cloud Nine. Under normal circumstances, Wild Beasts were a little stronger than humans at the same level.
Although Gulanxiu's attacks were somewhat stronger, attack power had never been its greatest strength. Its speed was. Thanks to its incredible speed, it had escaped death at the hands of countless powerful enemies. It had never encountered anyone at its level who was faster.
Absolutely confident in its speed, the Silver Wolf struck first. In its eyes, Gulanxiu was certainly difficult to deal with, but its speed would still let it remain undefeated.
A hint of surprise flashed through Gulanxiu's eyes. The Silver Wolf was surprisingly fast. It moved like a breeze, swift and silent!
It was nothing special to Gulanxiu, but it was already impressive for a Wild Beast that hadn't even comprehended the Law.
The Silver Giant Wolf's two claws were like a pair of curved blades, sweeping through the air in elegant arcs as they slashed toward Gulanxiu.
Gulanxiu smiled faintly. Without any obvious movement, he swung the giant axe in his hand. It seemed slow, yet blocked the Silver Wolf's claws at just the right moment.
The Silver Wolf wasn't surprised that its attack had been blocked. From their brief exchange earlier, it knew that Gulanxiu's cultivation was no weaker than its own. He was the most formidable opponent it had ever encountered. Of course, such an enemy wouldn't be defeated so easily. It would have been strange if Gulanxiu couldn't block those two claws!
With that thought, the Silver Wolf darted around Gulanxiu, its two claws slashing at him like a storm.
Its frenzied claw techniques seemed chaotic, but they concealed profound intricacies. Empowered by its Wind Domain, they were quite formidable.
Still, those tricks were nowhere near enough to deal with Gulanxiu. He barely seemed to move the giant axe in his hands, yet each time, it blocked the Silver Wolf's claws at just the right moment. His effortless ease looked graceful and casual.
The battle between the giant wolves and the Silver Armor Guards had also come to a stop. The hundred or so green giant wolves were now all injured and no longer had the advantage against the few guards. Naturally, they didn't dare act rashly.
The guards didn't dare press their advantage, either. There were simply too many wolves, and they weren't confident they could win if the beasts fought to the death.
Besides, both sides knew that the outcome no longer rested with them. It depended on the man and wolf fighting in front of them.
The youth named Liu Jiang quietly asked the guard captain, "Uncle Li, how are they doing? Can that lord win?"
The guard captain wasn't sure himself. From where he stood, the Silver Wolf had the upper hand, surrounding Gulanxiu and forcing him to do nothing but defend.
But when his young lord asked, he had no choice but to comfort him against his better judgment. "Don't worry, Young Lord! That lord is making it look effortless. His every move is relaxed. He'll be fine!"
Liu Jiang asked doubtfully, "Uncle Li, are you sure? It looks to me like that lord is at a disadvantage!"
Uncle Li replied, "That's because your cultivation is too weak, Young Lord! We can all see that the lord has the initiative. Once he makes his move, the battle will be over! Isn't that right?" He directed the last question at the other guards, hoping their agreement would make his words more convincing.
The other guards followed the captain's lead and chimed in. "The captain's right!" "The lord definitely has the upper hand!"
Seeing all the guards say this, Liu Jiang breathed a quiet sigh of relief. Gulanxiu was his only hope right now, after all. If Gulanxiu lost, their fate was all too clear!
The injured giant wolves weren't so calm when they heard the guards insist that Gulanxiu had the upper hand. As far as they were concerned, their leader should be in control. Why did the guards see things differently?
Even Gulanxiu, still fighting, was taken aback. Was his act really that obvious? Even some nobody had seen through it. Wouldn't it be dangerous for him to go to World City, then?
As he thought this, he unconsciously added a little more force to his next swing. The Silver Wolf, fighting Gulanxiu, suddenly felt a chilling sense of danger rise within it! A powerful pressure emanated from Gulanxiu's giant axe.
A powerful force of restraint instantly enveloped the Silver Wolf, making it difficult for it to move.
At this critical moment, the Silver Wolf barely managed to raise both claws to meet the axe.
With a loud BOOM!, both of the Silver Wolf's claws snapped, and its body was hurled through the air. A miserable howl rang out as it flew.
As soon as the other giant wolves heard the howl, they abandoned the human guards and turned to flee!
After steadying itself in midair, the Silver Wolf shouted at Gulanxiu, "Human! You win. I'll avenge this grudge another day!"
Then, like the other wolves, it fled into the distance. In the blink of an eye, it overtook the green giant wolves and disappeared into the blood-red grassland.
