Background / History

Luna grows up beside Caesar Wilkes after his family moves next door to the Lovegoods in Exeter. At seven, she is bullied by older boys for her unusual beliefs until Caesar intervenes. Although frightened and isolated, she retains her kindness, imagination, and fascination with strange creatures 59.

Her mother, Pandora Lovegood, encourages curiosity and unconventional magical research. Luna initially appears more vulnerable and ordinary than her later reputation suggests; Caesar cleans the residue of Pandora’s failed frogspawn experiment from Luna’s shoe and gains entry into the Lovegood household through his apparent interest in their research 60.
