Background

Lu Huan was a timid little demon girl rescued by Shen Hui before receiving a name. She followed him because she believed him to be “a good person,” showing immediate trust despite her fearfulness and limited understanding of the human world 94 97.

Ji Chen wished to accept her as his closing disciple and gave her the Daoist name Jing Huan, but Shen Hui urged that she be allowed to grow older and choose for herself. Lu Huan did not understand parents, names, or the implications of apprenticeship; she was initially more attached to the freedom of the mountains 97.

At Clear Wind Temple, she was seized by soldiers and bit their commander in resistance. Nie Yun intervened after the officer turned violent, saving Lu Huan despite her injuries and fear 140 141. During the later destruction of the temple's former circle, Qingyi fled with her in an attempt to protect her; Shen Hui then took Lu Huan with him after killing the fleeing group 164.

When Lu Huan asked to learn magic so that she could protect herself, Shen Hui began teaching her after becoming Clear Wind Temple's tenth-generation temple master. She chose the human method of Qi Induction and remained at his side as he traveled and cultivated 166.

During Shen Hui's year-long meditation, Patriarch Embracing Snow taught Lu Huan breathing exercises. Lu Huan practiced diligently and reached the late stage of Qi Refinement, while her horns disappeared and her body matured slightly 251. Her questions are often direct enough to expose gaps in others' explanations. She asks why statues exist, what cultivation metaphors mean, why rules matter, and why people act cruelly. Although she often does not immediately understand the answers, she continues thinking about them rather than simply accepting convention 176 273 307.

Initially shy around strangers, Lu Huan gradually becomes more sociable and independent. She speaks with travelers, asks merchants about their wares, rides a donkey with delight, and seeks Shen Hui's permission before joining unfamiliar groups 190.

She retains a child's appetite, playfulness, and occasional naivety, but she is also compassionate. She is disturbed by suffering, worries for Shen Hui when he is endangered, and reacts strongly to atrocities against children and helpless people 228 256 279.

Lu Huan is obedient when Shen Hui gives serious instructions, entering his sleeve without protest when he warns her of danger or harsh weather 380 393. Healing and Remembrance

After destroying the Blood Banner Army's camp and witnessing the devastation of Floating Cloud County, Shen Hui creates a medicinal well for the surviving townspeople. Lu Huan is entrusted with ringing the Worry-Forgotten Bell for each person who drinks, giving her a direct role in the community's healing and remembrance 386.

Renewed Clear Wind Temple Lineage

Shen Hui begins creating sect tokens and accepts Hu Cheng as a disciple, marking the reconstruction of Clear Wind Temple's succession.
