On January 13, the Memphis Grizzlies played the Detroit Pistons at The Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit.
Link was no stranger to the Detroit Pistons. After all, when he had been with the Rockets, the Pistons had been the first opponent he faced.
Come to think of it, Link had nearly forgotten that he had once played for the Houston Rockets.
There had been little suspense in today's game itself. After their sluggish showing in the previous game, the Grizzlies finally played to their true level today. Randolph wreaked havoc in the Pistons' paint, going 10-for-17 from the field while earning 17 trips to the free-throw line and making 14 of them.
Randolph finished with 34 points and 17 rebounds, like an unstoppable beast. It was already his fifth 30-plus-point game of the season, and he seemed even more formidable than he had been in his younger days.
Rudy Gay also performed far better than he had in the previous game. With thick padding wrapped around his shoulder, he turned in a highly efficient performance.
Gay made 10 of his 13 shots and scored 26 points, undoubtedly making things even worse for the Pistons.
With both Gay and Randolph putting on excellent performances, Link did not get many opportunities today. He finished with 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Though it was not as dazzling as his 28-point outing in the previous game, he had still done his job well overall.
For the Pistons, McGrady was their brightest spot today. He played 36 minutes, a season high. In those 36 minutes, McGrady went 6-for-11 and scored 16 points, serving as the Pistons fans' only consolation.
In the end, the Grizzlies crushed the Pistons 107-99 on the road, securing their second straight win. The Grizzlies controlled the game throughout,
