Xiong Wu is an exceptionally large, intimidating man whose physique gives him a major advantage in direct physical combat.

Personality

Xiong Wu is violent, arrogant, and openly contemptuous toward opponents he considers beneath him. He repeatedly insults Chen Yue for being a Pearl Diver and assumes his greater size and innate strength will guarantee victory 38 45.

He is also opportunistic in battle. After agreeing to discard weapons for a fistfight, he throws his saber as a distraction and immediately launches a surprise punch at Chen Yue's temple, exploiting a loophole in the arena rules 46.

When overwhelmed, Xiong Wu becomes increasingly desperate and self-destructive. Rather than accept defeat after both arms are badly damaged, he activates a dangerous blood-qi-enhancing method and continues fighting while disregarding pain and severe injury 48 49.

Demand at Iron Mountain Hall

Xiong Wu arrives at Iron Mountain Hall on Tang Qizheng's orders after Chen Yue injures several Sea Shark Gang members and kills one of them. He demands that Chen Yue either break his own arm and kowtow in apology or settle the matter through a Life-and-Death Contract 38.

Zhou Jingfeng's formal acceptance of Chen Yue as a personal disciple transforms the dispute from a conflict with a Pearl Diver into a confrontation between the Sea Shark Gang and Iron Mountain Hall 38 39. Xiong Wu agrees to the contract after Chen Yue challenges him, and the duel is scheduled for ten days later 39.

Life-Death Arena

At Nantong Martial Hall, Xiong Wu attempts to gain the advantage by proposing an unarmed fight, relying on his size and natural strength. Chen Yue agrees only after attaching a three-hundred-tael wager to the match 45 46.

Xiong Wu begins the duel with a concealed surprise attack, but Chen Yue deflects the strike, overwhelms him with the Iron Mountain Lean and Crushing Fist, and shatters Xiong Wu's right arm in a direct clash 46 47.

Refusing to lose, Xiong Wu triggers the Blood-Burning Combat Art and pursues Chen Yue in a pain-ignoring frenzy. His enhanced strength fails to compensate for his impaired coordination; Chen Yue evades his attacks, destroys his left shoulder, crushes his throat, and finishes him with a kick to the head 48 49 50.

Aftermath

Tang Qizheng publicly acknowledges that Xiong Wu died because his skills were inferior and agrees to end the immediate conflict with Iron Mountain Hall 50. The Sea Shark Gang later delivers the three hundred taels owed from Xiong Wu's wager to Chen Yue 52.
