History

In ancient times, the Heavenly Court and the Buddhist Sect were part of a single order: the Three Buddhas and Three Venerables ruled the Nine Provinces together, while immortals and Buddhists shared the same halls. Their paths differed—immortals cultivated divine abilities and unity with heaven and man, while Buddhists pursued karma and fleshly-body sanctification. After the Three Buddhas and Three Venerables vanished, conflict over orthodoxy split the former allies into separate powers. The divine-ability cultivators retained the Heavenly Court and the Nine Provinces, while the Buddhist cultivators withdrew and formed the Buddhist Sect 882.

Tens of thousands of years before the present story, the Heavenly Court summoned Immortal Lord Cloud Dream by decree. After his disappearance, Cloud Dream Mountain’s disciples considered going to Heaven for answers. The Heavenly Court later declared that Immortal Lord Cloud Dream had “defied the heavens,” executed him, severed his lineage, destroyed Cloud Dream Mountain, and erased its orthodoxy. A new Heavenly Lord Cloud Dream was appointed, establishing Cloud Dream Palace and pursuing survivors of the old lineage 725.

The Little Heavenly General incident

After Jiang Yuechu kills the Court-registered Little Heavenly General, Cloud Dream Palace fears the Heavenly Court’s retaliation. The Heaven-Patrol Division dispatches Xu Ming to investigate, but he instead offers Jiang Yuechu a test and eventual recruitment if she can survive against a Painting Realm opponent for one stick of incense 751 761 771.

Jiang Yuechu’s recruitment

Xu Ming explains that the Court values exceptional talent—even in someone who killed a favored official—and offers Jiang Yuechu entry, resources, and demon-hunting opportunities. She accepts after settling her affairs in Cloud Dream Haven 773 774.

Director Cao grants Jiang Yuechu a Principal Ninth Rank immortal registration through the Merit Evaluation Immortal Office, after learning of her sixteen Heaven-Grade Dao Chess Pieces and her conflict with Heavenly Court officials 786. She is initially placed in the Imperial Horse Immortal Division as a Heavenly Stable Master before registering as a Ninth Rank Heavenly Patrol Guard 787 805.

Internal political opposition

Although Jiang Yuechu earns merit through Heavenly Patrol assignments, influential figures obstruct her promotion and seek an investigation by the Heavenly Ministry Bureau. Her conflicts include parties connected to the City God system, Greedy Wolf Star Lord, and Cloud Dream Palace 821.
