Ch. 881A Wave of Improvements
Plot points and events
- Back at Jade Luan Manor, Jiang Yuechu checks her cultivation panel and decides to spend her stored Dao Essence on strengthening her techniques before absorbing more demon corpses.
- She upgrades the Heavenly Demon Art to Supreme. The breakthrough causes blood-red currents to course through her body, greatly enhancing her physical power.
- Jiang Yuechu suspects the technique may effectively fuse a Dao Painting with her body ahead of the Roaming Void Sea Realm, explaining how she could fight opponents of that level. She wonders whether entering that realm and fusing her own Dao Painting might grant her the benefits of two such enhancements, but cannot yet confirm the theory.
- She also raises Great Mountain Force from Major Achievement to Supreme. The improvement is modest, but she recognizes that small refinements have helped build her formidable strength.
- With 690 Dao Essence remaining, she records the corpse of Venerable White Horse in her Myriad Demon Atlas. The costly process adds his image and raises the Atlas from Mystic tier, seventh grade, to fifth grade, but gives her no technique or ability.
- By questioning White Horse’s phantom within the Atlas, she learns that he used the Buddhist Ten Abodes Cycle Sutra to unleash reserves accumulated over three previous lives. The method let him break through in their desperate fight, but exhausted those reserves and permanently ended his prospects for further advancement.
Character development and interactions
- Jiang Yuechu remains pragmatic and unsentimental, prioritizing cultivation over other people’s romantic troubles and carefully weighing how to spend her resources.
- Her confidence is balanced by curiosity: she develops a bold theory about her body’s power, yet recognizes it as speculation until she reaches the next realm.
- She is frustrated by the poor return from recording White Horse, but uses her authority over his phantom to obtain the information she wants.
- White Horse, now bound within the Atlas, is submissive and answers her questions fully.
Significant themes
- Incremental cultivation: Jiang Yuechu values steady, cumulative improvements, even when individual gains seem small.
- Power and sacrifice: White Horse’s sudden breakthrough came at the cost of his accumulated cultivation and future potential.
- Experimentation and uncertainty: Jiang Yuechu observes how techniques and Dao Paintings affect the body, forming theories while acknowledging what remains unproven.
