"This Steam Engine..."
Zhao Cheng placed the iron kettle, which he had just had Qin Guli forge a few days prior, onto the furnace, then closed his eyes to rest his mind.
Qin Guli had already whipped out his little notebook and dipped his brush in ink, ready to record, but when he looked up and saw Zhao Cheng closing his eyes again, he nearly coughed up a mouthful of blood in frustration.
Just say it already!
It was maddening!
His gaze fell upon the kettle, lost in thought, but no matter how he pondered, it felt as if there were a veil between him and the truth; he could not grasp the connection between this kettle and the concept of energy.
Yet, he dared not urge him, fearing that if Zhao Cheng grew annoyed, he wouldn't speak at all for the rest of the day.
And so he waited, and waited...
Whoo... Whoo...
The lid of the kettle suddenly began to rattle, and plumes of steam billowed forth, causing the lid to shake with increasing violence.
Zhao Cheng finally opened his eyes, looked at the kettle, and asked, "Why does the lid tremble?"
Qin Guli frowned deeply; he sensed some hidden power emerging from within, but he could not articulate the principle behind it.
In this era, abstract concepts like energy, pressure, and thermodynamics simply did not exist.
Although the phenomenon of steam lifting the lid could be observed directly, when it came to the underlying principles, even the disciples of the Mohist School were left in a state of bewilderment.
Yet, within that bewilderment, a profound contemplation was ignited.
This line of thought became increasingly wondrous, as if it contained infinite truths.
But there was no entry point, no way to grasp that elusive, certain something, leaving Qin
