King Jia of Wei felt as though his whole body were drifting weightlessly, like willow fluff wrapped in the wind, while his consciousness was muddled beyond measure.
He could not tell whether he was awake or asleep. He could not remember how much time had passed. It felt as if he had drifted through boundless darkness for countless years, yet also as if it had only been the blink of an eye.
Then, at some moment, a solid sensation suddenly came from beneath his feet, as though he had stepped onto cool earth. Only then did his muddled soul slowly gather itself, gaining a little clarity.
But immediately afterward, a violent headache struck him. His temples throbbed furiously, and his throat was so dry it felt ready to smoke.
He wanted to open his eyes and look around, but his eyelids were as heavy as if lead weights hung from them. After struggling for a long while, he could only pry open a narrow slit.
