Between the battlements, a bronze watchtower stood every five zhang. Silver-gray steam pipes wound around the towers, and wisps of pale vapor occasionally drifted from their mouths, as though a thin veil had been wrapped around this majestic city.

The main gate at the center was a double-layered steel structure. Through the cracks around its hinges, one could vaguely make out silver-gray steam pipes and bronze valves. Such a heavy iron gate could never be pushed by ordinary human strength; clearly, it was opened and closed by some strange mechanism.

Above the gate hung a plaque more than a zhang wide, bearing the words "Wu'an" in bold seal script.

A fist-sized bronze bell was set into either side of the plaque. Whenever the wind blew, their chimes rang clear but not harsh, lending the city an even greater air of majesty.
